Now, with my original post, I did not take into account any slots into my formula. Reason being, if slots give points, then ships without slots would be much more competitive that ships with slots.
If we have to pay for a slot, and then pay again for the points of the upgrade, it is practically paying twice.
Other reasons why you should have to pay for slots: Look at the Black Squadron TIE vs Obsidian Squadron TIE.Difference in pilot skill is 1, which usually means 1 point. But then add that elite pilot upgrade, and by your math it should be another point.
I believe that slots are free until you add an item, and when you do, you add that cost, once.
Like I said, if we were paying for slots, a naked B, Y, or TIE Bomber would not be worth it in any way.
Look at a naked B compared to a naked X. The B loses an agility die, is slightly slower, but has 3 more shields, and a systems slot, a cannon slot, and 2 torpedo slots. So it has two more slots, yet only costs 1 more point, which could easily be attributed to the shields.
You simply cannot take into account upgrades in the base value, it will make ships way over costed.
