Phantom

By Nyt, in X-Wing

I kind of want to try 4 Sigma's. They will simply shred swarms. You very well could take out 3 academy ties before one even gets the chance to shoot back. No need to keep them in formation, just incircle and pick apart your opponents formation.

They have more HPs than a 3 X build, and have way more firepower. Of course anything with a turret will give you issues...

I'm not sure why everyone thinks the fact that they are call signs instead of names is relevant to what gender they are.

Right? "Pretty Pink Bunny" could totally be a male TIE pilot.

People seem to be assuming gender based on their name. But their names aren't Echo or Whisper, so there's no reason to assume gender based on the call sign.

We have no idea what Whispers gender is, unless FFG has said someplace else. Echo we know is a guy though.

Whisper sounds kind of feminine.

Echo does not.

Upon further consideration, I want my call sign to be "Valar Morghulis."

Both choices feel to me like they're sneaky long before they're male or female.

Her(yes I know FFg thinks its a him)

And you base that on what? Neither Echo or Whisper existed prior to this, as far as I know. Since they were created by FFG, then only they can say if it's a he or she. Both are listed with "'s around their name, so this is a call sign not a name.

Because Echo is a female figure in Greek Myth. But more than that, because there are Schrodingers gender. Both at the same time until we open the box. :P

At PS5, I think you're gambling with ACD. Half the lists you face will have lower PS ships, the other half will have higher. Is 4 points for an extra action and the chance to be cloaked while being fired at worth it? This is going to be another one of those wait and see scenarios, but I, personally, don't expect to see a lot of ACDs. Time will tell.

1 point intelligence agents can go a long way to deciding to decloak or not. (Maybe I'm getting the order wrong)

Sure, but if that's the case why bother with ACD at all? If you're confident that you won't be in a position to get fired at (i.e. out of arcs), then cloaking just becomes a glorified boost action.

Sets up the phantom for the next turn? Free cloaking action.

Everyone wants to be called 'Maverick' but nobody is. It's always something you did that was stupid. Like Hugger, Lamb, Silky, Honcho, POT, Splendor, Simple Jack, Trooper (guy I know who owns full storm trooper armor), wee Man, Uranus, EPIC, you know, things like that... If you show signs of liking your callsign it immediately gets changed. I think 'Whisper' is awesome. I wish mine were Valar Morghulis... I would even go for Whisper or Echo

In the US Navy (and other services as far as I know) you get your callsign during training from your fellow student pilots and instructors, not by your choice.

I am totally going to call one of my ships that. Or fly a set of three ships and call them Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup.

They totally need to be flying 3 (chemical) X-Wings.

That's correct. Your first callsign is usually assigned in your first fleet tour after you've screwed something up and look dumb. That either sticks or gets reassigned if you do something more epically stupid. Those listed above are all real callsigns.

Well sometimes they're for cooler things, Case in point ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Corrigan )

But from what I know from my ex-military friends yeah, trying to name yourself or establish a "cool" name is a recipe for spending your career going by something horrible.

In universe Whisper probably spent their entire first combat mission screaming "Oh god we're all gonna die!" and similar sentiments.

And what do we say to Wedge Antilles when he has a focus and a target lock on us?

...We say "Boy, I'm glad I'm not a PS5 Phantom with Advanced Cloaking Device right now."

I agreed earlier with a comment without being specific enough. I think one of the two cloaking mods is an auto-include on every Phantom, but the PS3 will usually want the Stygium Accelerator, and PS5-6 have a tough and meta-dependent choice to make.

I'm glad this game continues to get more interesting. It looks like they really shook up the meta with with Wave 4, especially the phantom, but a wave 1 ship, Wedge, can still make almost anyone second guess their decision.

I can't help but think of Rubber Duck, although I suspect he's piloting a YT-1300 instead.

Because Echo is a female figure in Greek Myth.

And Echo is also a clone's name in The Clone Wars. The clones were decidedly male.

And Echo is also a clone's name in The Clone Wars. The clones were decidedly male.

But given the way clones are designated and name each other, It's probably just that his code starts with E and they were using the phonetic alphabet.

And let's be fair, Most people think of the sound phenomenon named for echo before they think of her.

Are you sure; I never was good at telling the difference.

If you're having a hard time telling the difference between men and women, PM me and I'll explain it to you.
