Storing the GR-75

By teslariffic, in X-Wing

I just got my copy of the transport yesterday, and I have no idea how to store it. I have a nice tackle box that holds all my other minis (even the large base ships) and tokens quite nicely, but I can't find a way to get the transport to fit. How are you guys storing yours?

My box has a pair of upper bubbles. It fits in one perfectly. Beyond that... If you can't make it fit you probably need a new Box... Sadly.

I have a Plano 732, and it easily fits in the top compartment. I was a little worried about the probe portion of the transport perhaps snapping off, so I have a piece of bubble wrap wrapped around the transport just in case.

Storing the transport?....more like displaying the transport! :D

So seeing all my stuff is stored in tackle boxes and I was wondering about this I found out that the transport fists perfectly in the core set box I had laying around.

Do you think you will have room for the corvette? I have a flambeau T4 and it is awesome, but I'm at capacity with the exception of the ship containers. If I'm going to get something new, I would like for it to be able to hold at least a few huge ships.

I also have a Plano 732 and I have a spot in one of the clear trays that it fits very nicely in.

I'm hoping the top will be big enough for the Corvette

Yeah, the side top fits the transport easily (one of the sides is long, and the other bubble canopy side is divided, so I use it for my shuttle and for the Firespray. The Interior MAY be large enough for the CR-90 Corvette, but until I have it in my hands it's hard to say.. It may be pushing things to put it in the top..

I grabbed a Plano 1374 after wave 2 hit after reading this thread on BGG from kirkbauer:

Along with the GR-75, I currently have:

5 x-wings (including the transport)

2 y-wings

4 a-wings

3 b-wings

1 yt-1300

8 tie fighters

7 tie interceptors

1 tie advanced

3 tie bombers

2 firespray-31s

2 lambda shuttles

In the top I'm currently storing

1 3'x3' felt mat

1 cardbox containing all of the pilot cards and a majority of the upgrade cards

1 28-day pillbox that contains a number set and a target lock for each day

I still have enough space to easily accommodate all of the ships I plan on picking up for wave 4, and I'm more than certain both the transport and corvette will fit in the top section in the plastic they came in if I removed the two boxes. I'm measuring to see if I can place the transport so the long side is running along one of the short sides of the top, but I may need to actually purchase some foam for me to be comfortable with storing it that way. I really like the pistol case as a huge ship only container, as they won't see as much play as the smaller ships, but I'm a little stubborn in wanting a 1-case-fits-all solution.

I cut down the plastic that the thing came in to fit in the white box that came with it inside the bigger box, flipped it upside down, and store the ship in it's original casing and all the huge-ship specific stuff in the dead space in the back of it.

Anyone know, how long after a ship is released, does it take battlefoam to put out new custom foam for a new ship?

There are a few places the transport fits in the Plano 732.

It fits in the clear domed section in the lid or the top storage compartment (although I don't like using those spots as the ship gets moved around every time the lid is opened). It also will fit in any of three pull out boxes in the front of the tacklebox.

I am concerned that the Corvette's engine block will be too large to store in a Plano 732 though.

That was my concern too (The movement of the ships when the top compartment is opened) That's the reason I wrap my ships in bubble wrap. Even if they do get banged around, hopefully nothing will snap off..

I was thinking the same thing I got the Wave 3 battlefoam and it seem to come out at the same time as the ships were released. I have an extra pluck foam tray I am using right now for the GR-75

Kr have already said they are just waiting for physical product to finalize their new trays. They are uk based, so are waiting like the rest of us.

My solution is to put it in a shoe box and there is enough room for the CR-90 to fit alongside it when I get it. I don't need to bring them to every match and when I do, a shoe box is fine considering it will only have to travel half a dozen times per year. At some stage I'll get a better solution, but I'll probably wait and see if there are other Huge ships released and use a solution that will handle those as well.

BF is UK based???

Battle Foam is US based.

KR Multicase is UK based I believe.

Just got an email about foam for the Rebel transport. That's funny that I just asked that earlier today.

Anyone know if the 3952 (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ECQPVQ/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) will hold the transport on the right-hand side?

I'm keeping mine in the plastic it came in along with everything for it till the Corvette comes out later this month. Then, once Battle Foam has the Corvette shape available, I plan on ordering a custom cut tray to hold both ships and all of the associated bases, tokens and cards.

If you want a far cheaper option, you can go to a store that sells foam (Clark Rubber in Australia, not sure of what is its counterpart in other countries) and have them cut you a sheet of foam of the same dimensions as battlefoam. Then just grab some scissors and cut around the plastic clamshell leaving a little bit of an edge. Cut a hole in the foam you just purchased that roughly matches the plastic clamshell and push your clamshell into the foam. The end result looks something like this:

I'm thankful my fleet is relatively small, and I also happen to keep my large ships separate in their original bubbles in my second box (I put my tokens, range rulers and other important things in there). My main case holds my minis in pluck foam, so I have the Transport currently upside down in it, just sitting in the foam with only the command pod plucked. I'll fix it -properly- one of these days, probably when I get my own CR-90 and seeing if I can squeeze it in there at all.
