Lancer class Frigate??

By dwood28, in X-Wing

What does everyone think of the possibility of adding a Lancer class frigate into the game? According to Wookieepedia it is only slightly larger then the CR90. I feel that the anti starfighter role of this capital ship would add an interesting dynamic to the game for the Imperials. What does everyone think?

The problem is that (like the Vigil-class corvette, which otherwise I like very much) it's "slightly larger" only if you qualify 100 meters as "slightly". Even at the reduced Epic scale it would still be somewhere in the range of 18 inches, which IMO is too much for the 3'x6' play area FFG has laid out for Epic tournaments.

Also, it looks like the sort of thing you find in a store catering to... discreet ladies and gentlemen. But that's really secondary to the scale problem, for me. (c:

In my head, this comes out in Darth Vader's voice.

Haha I never really thought about it that way!

Depends on what upgrade cards it comes with. ;)

Ironically they could make the model larger ad keep the base the same size and it wouldn't really effect gameplay. Firepower would be a little higher on it and size would be only marginally different. The problem I run into is how do you differentiate between an imperial design and an alliance one. There needs to be a difference between play styles between the sides for the capitals too. I would like to see boarding actions for imperial ships that can get close enough. Tractor beam the other ship immobile and get to range 1 and you can board. All you have to do is make tractor beam reduce energy on the other ship. When it hits 0 the ship is considered immobile and can be boarded by any capital at range 1. Boarding value is epic point value. Attacking players roll attack die = to epic point value of the capital ship, and defending player rolls defense die = to epic point cost. Ship is successfully boarded if it receives boarding hits = to epic point value or more. Boarded ships are not removed from the board but remain as an obstacle and can still be fired upon by either player. Just think something like that would be entirely different and fun.

Personally, I like the Lancer.. and comparing it to a dildo.... well, I'll just say... that looks like it would be.. uncomfortable .. to say the least.. lol

I just think something anti starfighter would be a fun mission. I do like the idea of boarding enemy ships!

I'm honestly all for the Lancer. If they make it they will probably make it an inch or so longer than the CR-90. It's one of the only EU Imperial ships that has a major presence, and it is built to take on fighters. That said, the design is kind of silly and boring.

And now you will be unable to see it in any other light.

Rotating ribbed middle section?

Remote controlled vibrating unit?

Have you seen some of the items that you can buy? It would fit right in, just add a little lube.

And now I can't read any comments about the proposed length of the Lancer without snickering.

...See, I would, but I'm also a Rebel player with a crummy budget already. So uh, you know.

What was my point again? Where am I?

Completely ignoring the shape, I think the Lancer is perfect for the game for one simple reason. It was specifically designed to combat starfighters. It was supposed to be the cure for TRD (Trench Run Disease for those who REALLY need to read the X-Wing novels)
