But this topic got me thinking, the paint jobs straight out the box are pretty good, apart from the Shuttle which I have to say is appalling, you can see the brush strokes and on top of that when you click the wings into place the fuselage starts to come apart.

So what is the general consensus on here, and has anyone done a decent repaint of the shuttle?

My Two Firesprays look very very different from one another. But that isn't a complaint.

Honestly, I'm just glad that I don't have to paint my X-Wing ships. I've got plenty of other minis that require paint to worry about some minor issues.

They're hand painted so it's luck of the draw.

Absolutely fantastic stuff

some of the early stuff released by ffg was naff, ive a couple of x wings where the paint job out of the box was poo, as was the moulding quality so repainted them as not a fan of cream coloured x wings so repainted them as red sqdrn but used light grey as basecote.

My shuttle has the brush strokes as well, so I would vote that as my biggest disappointment. But white is a very hard color to do, so i can live with it.

Mine has a fingerprint.

My buddy has fingerprints on his firespray. Just to the bottom left of the cockpit. Pure slop.

I'm just shocked they handle the models with bare hands while they're painting them. I would have assumed they had the models on stands to avoid such problems.

All I can see now is a bunch of Oompa Loompas with paint all over their hands singing about how patience is a virtue while they put fingerprints and brush strokes all over my new TIE Phantom.

They don't do that in any factory, because it's an extra step to mount them that would take time away from production. They do have stencils for panels and such that snap onto the model so they can paint it, but the black wash has to be done by hand.

Actually I'll a little disappointed with the paint job on my GR-75 most of all. Painting white is hard to do, so I forgive the lower quality look of the shuttle, but the panel work on my GR-75 has me twitching to break out the brushes and paint to fix it up.

I would really like to repaint my shuttle with a more pristine white look.

I wish I had the confidence and skill to paint my models. However I have no previous experience with model painting...and I suck at art.

I really like what you did with that.. the blues are nice, and I like the yellow accents.. then again I am part swedish too.. lol.. great paint job though.

Rust isn't the only weathering a vehicle can experience. It could get dirty from improvised maintenance, operating in atmosphere, or it could get damaged in combat. Rust seems a stretch for star wars vehicles, but I would strongly consider other weathering.

I have one of my x wings that looks like someone held the spray paint can a little too close for too long. Whenever I use it I always make sure it's on the guy I think will die first.

And it got enough water exposure in a hanger to make it rust? The point still stands. Rust happens when things get wet or are in humid environments frequently. Hangars wouldn't be humid... You'd have to wash your ship daily to make it that rusty...

If the hangar was on Felucia or on a Mon Calamari warship, then I can see it rusting badly.

Not to mention that there are plenty of exotic physics in star wars. That rust could be mynock residue.
