DarkStryder

I am starting a play by post campaign based on the Darkstryder adventure series originally published by WEG. The gamesite is at http://www.dailydoserpg.com/ and the forum for posts is at http://dailydoserpg.boards.net/ . Like the original campaign the players will have 3 characters that are a mixture of pregens and created characters. The characters are a ragtag group of former rebels, fringers, and even a few ex (?) Imperials. Please check us out and consider joining.

Love Darkstryder!

Also, that's an interesting pic... I see the artist has replaced Kaiya Adrimetrum with somebody else, and a couple other unknown characters are in there.

You guys using the WEG or FF system?

Tempted.... Very tempted. I am playing a PbP EotE game right now. I really like the idea of the FarStar. I have an endgame plan for my EotE character owning a ship like that.

What system will you be using? Honestly the only one I know is the EotE system.

The artist is me. I like to doodle.

The system will be Edge of the Empire/ Age of Rebellion with a little fan made Way of the Force and some house rules thrown in.

Knowing the system is second to just playing the character. I your not certain of the mechanics just explain what you want to do I will figure out how you do it mechanically.

So... if this is interesting, what do you want us to include in the mail?

That's a fantastic illustration!

Email sent. :)

True enough, but its still good to know how to do what you want.

I just became a lot more interested in it now that I know its the same system, assuming character creation will work the same way. I am with Northman, what do you want in the email? I see we will be selecting from creation and pre-gen's.

I've been waiting for finalized AoR myself, but then I'm looking forward to running it myself. May have to watch this to see if there's anything I need to watch out for.

That campaign would be great fun transferred over to AoR. I'd be interested in seeing your conversion notes someday.

BTW, That's really slick artwork you made there.

In the email just an idea (top ten list is fine) of characters you are interested in. Try to mix the department they come from so you have characters from all through the ship. If you begin with 1 to 3 pregen characters as they are killed off, jump ship, or move on we will add new crew created by the players.

After I approve and you accept a character, I will send you their full character sheet and backgrounds.

Act 1 is the crew preparing the FarStar for a shakedown jump and units starting testing and training of the crew.

I am splitting the missions into episodes and combining some ideas from previous DarkStryder campaigns. As I go along and we finished playing episodes I hope to post them as adventure pdfs. IMHO It is one of the best published campaigns ever made and I hope to help keep it alive.

I know in my campaign we are going to go from Minos to darkstryder, i really need more players tho to do darkstryder.

Tho my biggest personal beef is the FarStar, i would rather have a dedicated pocket carrier, then a Corellion Corvette shoehorned into the role

I am not a writer, my spelling and grammar is horrid, but I sure would be willing to play this

If you look at the Deck Plans the ship stats http://www.dailydoserpg.com/rpg/farstar.htm I've changed the FarStar into a larger version of the Corellian Corvette. It is an assault carrier 215 m long with more size, armor, and firepower than the normal Corvette. It is slow and doesn't jump real fast, but the 8 X-Wing, Defenders, and Assault Shuttle on board make up for the lack of speed. It also has the second fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, the Muvon.

Looks like a lot of fun! I have long been toying with the idea of converting DarkStryder to FFG system, but thought I'd hold off on the attempt until Force & Destiny. Good on you for taking the initiative though, it looks like it would be a blast to play in.

Why wait for f&d on this? Its not a force heavy campaign, or at least its not supposed to be...

My thought is Force and Destiny will be released about the same time we reach the Kathol Rift and really need advanced force rules. The campaign does not begin with any true fully functioning Jedi so I don't believe waiting is necessary.

I'm definitely interested in joining in!

Would you? I mean, without spoilers the only serious Force junk I can think of is that one person, those weird dudes, and that one guy. Oh, and all that other crazy stuff.

And all those are largely covered by existing material, the only exception being those weird dudes, but as NPCs you're reasonably clear to operate...

And all the other crazy stuff is really just a reward for getting that far, but again, largely covered by existing material, and not really required. If you just wanted to ditch it all together I doubt anyone would notice.

Wow that's probably clear as mud....

Over the years a number of Gms have added some pretty good ideas to DarkStryder.

http://www.seawolfsden.net/index.php/den/ronview/178 is one of the best with full pdf add-on materials for the game.

Some have woven in WEG adventures like StarFall and bounty hunting to the story.

Another group sent the FarStar back to the Clone Wars where they fought with Padawan Anakin Skywalker and saved a child named Han Solo finding out he was Lt Thyte's long lost brother. I don't plan on going that far off the track of the story, but do plan a few surprises.

Also the Kathol Rift has had a few supplements and novels add to the story. With additions I have taken and modifications I plan in the story, we will need a the force to be a little more with the crew to survive. So maybe I should call it DarkStryder 2.0.

On another part of the campaign I don't plan of locking in the destiny of certain characters. If characters who are supposed to die early make it to the end that is good. If a character meets an early end so be it (except Ranna I love Ranna). If a character becomes a villain or a hero even better.

Maybe Gammer would even stop playing Sabaac and do something in this campaign.

Pretty much the Kathol Rift bit, and the timeline setting. I guess I just wanted to have more cards on the table before I started into something so time-intensive as a campaign conversion :)

There is a site called Star Wars The Forgotten Tales http://swtft.com/ that has converted DarkStryder and other tales from D6 to D20. It is a good example of what I would like to see from D6 to FFG. WEG has such great stories I wish FFG could just buy the rights and republish them. I would line up to buy them myself.

Makes me wonder if they need to buy the rights. At the end of the day wouldn't Lucasfilm actually own them? If so, by extension FFG could republish them if they wanted...

Looking into WEG, they have passed through a few hands and are now a defunct company.

I think you are probably right that all characters and events passed back to Lucasfilms. If this is true FFG should look at releasing new versions of the classic adventures. Even released as PDF only (if they could get the rights to pdf releases) they would make a decent profit from the thousands of WEG players who still love the game.

Just an update. 376 posts later the FarStar crew had calmed the political situations and gathered the supplies needed to begin pursuit of Moff Sarne when a distress call arrives and they must launch a relief and rescue mission. We are just beginning the first Mission: Omens from the original campaign.

We have gained a crazy Duros pilot.

We have room for about 5 to 7 more players and are just starting Episode 2. This would be an easy jumping on point for new players.

Bump for the poster looking for a blog or online style game to play.

May as well put in our newest PC a Twi'Lek bounty hunter named Makio. We have 11 players currently but always have room for more. If you a little role playing everyday check us out.
