Official Expansions?

By Raice, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So, back in the day when this game was in Beta, there was talk about this new Star Wars system from FFG that would have 3 major releases.

The first would focus on Underworld type stuff.

The second would focus on War.

And the third would focus on Jedi and the Force.

So now, I'm looking at the products page, and I'm a little confused as to what is actually going on. I see the CRB, and I own a copy. But then I see these other things that apparently add more talents, gear, ships, bad guys... basically more rules.

What's the deal? I thought we were going to have 3 Core books?

They are in production.

There's a lot of work that goes into it. Don't rush the Alpha testers. Unless you WANT buggy systems released prematurely?

Relax... I'm not rushing anything. I was merely asking about it because I didn't understand and thought I had some distorted facts.

The three products you list are actually each their own semi-independent game line. The "underworld stuff" is the EotE core book. The "war" one is Age of Rebellion which is imminent. The Jedi one is "Force and Destiny" and comes out next year, I think. Each is a core book which is essentially the same core rules, but different emphasis, different careers, different talents, ships, background, etc.

Each of the three core books has its own line of expansion and support material. (Or will have in the case of those not released yet). So for Edge of the Empire, you're seeing Jewel of Yavin, Dangerous Suns, et al. For Age of Rebellion you'll see others.

They're branded as separate lines and you only need to get one, but they're compatible so you can mix and match if you wish.

They are in production.

We want everything perfect and everything now. You know that. ;) :)

No, you're facts are right as far as I can remember. Not sure of their anticipated order of release, though. We should get getting one of the Major Releases here soon into Beta.

I'm hoping War is gonna focus on Clone Wars. It would also make for a great expansion onto Stormtroopers, and allow for gameplay from within the ranks of the Empire.

Well, it's not perfect yet. So, suck it up. lol

So this support material isn't exactly a necessary thing? Like, I realize it will give extra gear or whatever, maybe some extra talents, but I'm not missing anything that adds to the Core Rules, correct?

I think you're confusing the OP, or else I'm very out of the loop on things. The OP is clearly referring to the three game lines: Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion and 'Force and Destiny'. There's no "war" supplement for Edge of the Empire as far as I'm aware (only a Hired Guns career expansion) and nothing planned for dealing with the Clone Wars time period.

It's not at all a necessary thing. You can play very happily for a good long time with just one of the core books - Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion or Force and Destiny (only the first is out so far, AoR is out next month or late this one, we think, FaD will be next year).

The supplements have some fun stuff in them - career expansions, more equipment, more ships, more background etc. But it is most definitely NOT required. Just nice.

The only thing I'd consider necessary is a second pack of dice, really. One pack just isn't enough.

I do my best to confuse and overwhelm.

The war focused core book comes out at the end of the month and is called Age of Rebellion. The three core books are apparently all going to be focused on the Original Trilogy though they might do a Clone Wars expansion at some point. Also there is a published adventure focused on hunting for a lost Separatist treasure ship, one of the brand new capital ships introduced in Dangerous Covenants was first produced shortly before the Clone Wars, and Suns of Fortune has full stats for both the Lancet class fighter which was widely used by the Republic Judaical forces before the Cone Wars, and the J-Type Star Skiff which was Padme's ship during Revenge of the Sith.

That makes sense. Though, seems like any of the books can be applied to any of those times and even before them. Such versatile. Very amaze. Wow.
