Huge Ship Actions

By Chris Maes, in X-Wing Rules Questions

OK, I have played three scenarios using the GR-75 Transport, read and re-read the rules multiple times and I am still not 100% sure that I have the answer to my questions(s).

Question: How many actions does the Transport get?

I see some references that make me believe that it may get more than one action but nothing that definitely says yes or no. My current thoughts are such...

a) The Transport generates Energy when it reveals its maneuver dial. This energy is then assigned to various energy consuming systems (Slicer Tools, Comms Booster, etc...) and/or saved for future use.

b) The transport may take 1 "Action" (just like any other ship) chosen from the ships Action Bar.

Answer: One.

What is leading you to believe that it gets more than one action?

The confusion may be coming from the generic huge ship rules PDF that is available for download. It specifies that a huge ship with 2 cards (such as the corvette) may perform an action with each half. The transport however only has one card and so only gets one action. It is possible that the book that came with the transport may still have copy/pasted language that implies 2 actions, but it is only the bigger huge ships, those with 2 pilot cards, that do.

Perhaps you're confusing "spending energy" and taking an action. It is a bit convoluted...

a) The Transport generates Energy when it reveals its maneuver dial. This energy is then assigned to various energy consuming systems (Slicer Tools, Comms Booster, etc...) and/or saved for future use.

Yes, there are two additional steps in the Transport activation phase. First the ship Gains energy based on the revealed maneuver. Then you have the option to use energy to activate abilities on cards which have the Energy: header. This must be done during this step, and you cannot "save" this energy to activate the ability later - in other words, if you want to use Comms Booster or flip over a Hull Breach damage card, you have to do it during this step. Slicer Tools is an Action: card, and cannot be used at this time! (NOTE: The CR-90 will include upgrades that will allow you "bank" energy on them for later use, such as the Turbolasers, but there are no upgrades with the Transport that allow you to do this.) After the Use Energy step is completed, you move on to the Perform Action step, where you get to perform ONE action. (NOTE: Again, as Forgottelore mentioned, the CR-90 will have TWO actions, one for each section of the ship. The Transport, however, only has ONE.) Some actions, such as Recovery or the aforementioned Slicer Tools, require you to spend energy to perform them. In any case you are still limited to one action.

I hope this clears it up a little. It was a bit confusing the first times we waded through it too.

As a side note, I find it a bit amusing that in the downloadable Huge ship rules on Page 2 under "Energy Steps in the Activation Phase", it says: "To gain and spend energy, huge ships resolves two additional steps during the

Activation phase." Then it proceeds to list THREE steps (which includes the Allocation phase for cards that can store energy).

Yeah, you are both correct on where my confusion crept in... it was from reading the Huge Ships PDF. Thanks for straightening me out.
