Deck: Glorfindel the Healer

By Khamul The Easterling, in Strategy and deck-building

Many of you spend a lot more time on this game and on building decks than I do. I usually only get in 2-3 games a week. I may not be quite as talented at building decks as Tracker1 and few other but I will share this deck. I wanted to make use of some cards I rarely use such as Lore Glrofindel, Mirlonde and some other lore cards I usually don't use. Here is the deck list.

Starting threat: 27

Hero (3)

Glorfindel (Lore)

Mirlonde

Legolas

Ally (17)

Rivendell Minstrel x3

Silvan Tracker x3

Erebor Hammersmith x3

Gildor Inglorion x3

Haldir of Lorien x2

Gandalf x3 (Core)

Attachment (22)

Rivendell Blade x3

Burning Brand x3

Cram x3

Asfaloth x3

Steward of Gondor x3

Protector of Lorien x2

Song of Kings x3

Elf Stone x2

Event (11)

Deep Knowledge x3

Quick Strike x3

Mithrandir's Advice x3

Daeron's Runes x2

Deck Strategy:

This is not a super powerfull deck but it isn't a weak deck. Glorfindel, Mirlonde, will quest almost every round. Legolas will attack with his Rivendell Blades along with whatever ally might be available for use. Defending is the most interesting part of this deck as it uses strong ally's and undefended attacks to counter enemy attacks. Usually mulligan for a Haldir or Gildor; they will be your main defenders, and have a way to get Steward of Gondor for lots of resources on Glorfindel.(Possible options to get SoG are song of kings, Rivendell Minstrel, and some card draw to get out SoG) Burning Brand is placed on Gildor or Haldir; whatever one is your defender. You can also take undefended attacks much easier thanks to Glofindel's healing ability and Silvan Tracker. The nice amount of card draw will get you other nice cards like quick strike, cram for extra attack from a hero, elf stone and others. Play the deck, tell me what you thought, and maybe you will like it. Any suggjestions would be very welcome since this deck is far from perfect.

Thanks

I like it! That's really funny, I was just thinking about building a deck of Lore and Legolas. This was a type of deck that I used to build a lot in the past, as elves are my favorite faction, but it was before we really had any elf support. It really was just a thematic nod to elves but wasn't particularly powerful. I'm going to go build my version of this deck and see how it holds up.

Soon we'll have some real elf awesomeness!

Cool, let me know how your version works and if it does real good, it would be nice if you could tell me what you changed so I might consider it too. I never liked using Beregond that much since it's such an easy way of defending and you hardly have to think of a stratagy to have a solid 6 def character. However, I like coming up with unique ways of defending like shown in this deck. I think it's way more fun to defend with a powered up Gildor than Beregond or Frodo ect.

Just played against Fangorn. Fun game, horrible score but really got to see the deck's full potential (had 18 characters on the table at the end). One thing I noticed is that this is a much slower deck than I'm used to playing recently due to the Time mechanic, Gondor's resource acceleration, and the availability of cheap allies. All these old Lore elf allies are so expensive!

I'll post the changes I made soon.

Yes this deck looks really interesting! For solo is not powerful but for Coop is really solid!

If you using song of kings thn sneak attack is powerful inclusion

You must have put a lot more ally's in. I was kind of trying to avoid that since I usually like "Few but strong" type decks with lots of events and attachments making the few characters you have strong with many actions and that kind of thing. I like that more than a massing of mid-weak ally's since it requires lots more strategy and I think it's fun with a band of few strong characters rather than an army of weaklings. I'll give your version a try however, I'm sure it's cool.

@7theye - I did consider sneak attack. Didn't want to take out any other cards though... :) I think I just might swap out elf stone for sneak attack though....

@Glaurung - Thanks for the compliments man. Glad others think the deck is not too bad. :) Even though it's not super powerful, it is refreshing, fun, and it has a very good theme. (at least I think)

I played against Fords of Isen and won on the first try. The game got to a tipping point where I almost thought I was going to lose but then a couple of key Elf-Stone plays got Gildor and another ally into play and turned the tide.

I usually shoot for 50% allies. Making the heroes strong is great but in this deck, there's no action advantage so I don't want to spend time boosting multiple stats for the heroes.
That being said, I added song of travel and Light of Valinor. If I'm playing multiple copies of Rivendell Minstrel, might as well have different songs in there!

I would suggest Hands Upon the Bow, always a great card with Legolas, even better than Quick Strike, I think, and thematic also.

Exactly how I like to play

Check out my two handed elf deck/s when you have time, I recently made changes and upped the amount of strong but few characters! Both are attachment heavy and run many strong characters (as well as a handful of weak but very useful allies...)

Nice deck by the way! Good theme and looks fun to play
