Expose plus Kyle/Garven?

By Millennium Falsehood, in X-Wing

I've been thinking about trying this one.

Suppose I had Expose on a pilot like Wedge who is already a great offensive player, then I had a pilot like Garven or Kyle who would pass on a free Focus to them when they used Expose.

It seems to me that this would make Expose worth the points, if you could use it and not get . . . well, exposed in the combat round. But having it on your best pilots would help. An even better idea would be to put Stealth Device on the pilot with Expose, but that might be too overcosted (except in much larger battles where you have more leeway with points).

What do you guys think? Anyone tried this?

Well, it would have to be with Kyle if you want to make it work with Wedge, since Garven only pass it by using it, so there isn't a lot of chance of it happening before Wedge shoot.

For my part, I would still prefer going with Jan that gives +1 attack dice to anyone in the squad and still leaves Wedge and the other free to do the action they want and it doesn't reduce the agility (something you don't want happening with a high priority target like Wedge). It's also indepedent of action, so you can still boost Wedge even if he's stressed.

Still no chance for Expose. It continue to sucks.

Losing your action and 1 agility is just brutal. I thought of a house rule to potentially "fix" it though:

"Immediately before revealing your maneuver dial, you may until the end of the round increase your primary weapon value by 1 and and decrease your agility value by 2, to a minimum of 0."

Mathematically, Expose plus a token from another ship works. But I've never found that it was worth the combination of points and trouble to do so; Jan and Opportunist are both simpler ways to accomplish the same objective, IMO.

I went to a tourney and ran a 3 ship list using this. It was quite fun, but as with all 3 ship builds not using a big ship.... quite fragile against an experienced opponant.

Biggs - R2-F2, Stealth Device

Wedge - Expose

Kyle - Moldy Crow, Recon Specialist, Blaster Turret

Expose pretty much only ever works in action economy and synergy lists. I've also used it to moderate effect on vader since the extra action lets him "mode swap" between offense and defense as needed. I would personally put two action or token giving ship in the squad and the list of people I'd use it on are pretty much Wedge, Luke (the defense hit isn't as bad for him), Tycho with the new title +ptl. Possibly Kath Scarlet or Mauler Mithal.

I tend to go Opportunist rather than Expose. Wedge, Opportunist, and R2 Astro to shed the stress.

Opportunist on a PS9 pilot?

I would agree that opportunist is more generally useful, Expose just has too many downsides for the bonus it gives unless you build to counteract them. Giving extra actions, especially to a ship like the x-wing with so few choices anyway, can mitigate one, and some careful planning can also lessen the blow of the other.

It's uses are few however. Ultimately it's rarely going to hit the table no mater what happens.

Opportunist on a PS9 pilot?

Probably with Wes/VI

The only way I can see it is Green Squadron Pilots with PtL, and the upgrade that grants an extra elite talent. So that'd be either a 26 (or 24 with Chaardan refit) for some synergy to use it on the chance you're out of arc. Not the most effective use of points, but it's the only way I can see it possibly seeing play. People already seem to have issues with the A-Wing's 2 attack dice, so I dunno... unless I was also throwing on something like a missile then it doesn't seem worth it. There are better ways to get 5 attack dice.

Expose is also pretty good on Falcons, since having 1 or 0 agility doesnt create much for a difference. Han can make use of his ability to get more high quality attacks out of Expose, and Chewbacca has a low enough PS to benefit from action sharing effects from Garven Dutch etcetc.

Which upgrade grants a second EPT again?

An unreleased one from Rebel Aces.
