Finding a use for Opportunist

So the one thing I haven't found a good use for out of the Imperial Aces box is the EPT Opportunist. My first thought was to put it on a Green. Stress is no big deal to an A-wing and the extra die gives it the bite it lacks. At 23 points, you could just get a Red that always rolls three dice but with out the stress, has 1 more hull, 1 higher PS, and the only negative is the dial is not as good as the A-wing's. So, no go.

Then I thought, what about Black Squad Ties? I'm not a big swarm fan, so I only own three Tie Fighters. Build a squad of:

Howlrunner+Swarm Tac.+Hull

Black+Opportunist x2

BH+Gunner+Proxy

Then I decided to pit this squad against another idea I've been working and tweeking:

Chewie+Luke+Falcon

Red

Dagger+Adv. Sensors

The empire squad lost the first game, but took the B-wing down quick and put a serrious hurt on Chewie. My friend and I traded squads for the next game. First to die on was Howl and the B-wing. After that, it went down hill quick for my Rebel squad. The Black Ties took down Chewie before being destroyed. The Red had no chance against the BH.

Anyone else have any good Opportunist squads or ideas to improve this one?

The idea is to use Wedge and rookie to attack first, and strip away any tokens hopefully and come in with ten

Worked well when I used it and is really sick with ten and auto blasters

The whole point of this squad was I wanted to find a use for ten with auto blasters

I've also used opportunist on squints and found it pretty nice

There are a lot of good uses for Opportunist, but I'd say Black Squadron isn't one of them: for the same 18 points you can get an Alpha, whose 3 Attack is always on, and doesn't pick up stress to use it.

Also, I'm increasingly of the opinion that Ten Numb just isn't very good... Although Phantoms may change that.

FFG's article about the HWK had these three pilots together. They are a fantastic trio. Never thought about putting Opportunist on the X-wings. If they can dish out the damage fast enough, this three ship squad could be nasty. At the very least, I might run this list as part of an epic Rebel fleet.

Another take on your list,

Upgrade the Firespray to Krassis with HLC, or Kath with Gunner, gives you a higher PS shot for opportunist to more easily kick in.

I'd try:

Howlrunner

BSP + Opp

BSP + Opp

Krassis + HLC + Rebel Captive

Or swap Krassis for Kath + Gunner + EH/RC

That's my take on it.

Id also consider 1 Saber Squadron Pilot + Oppurtunist to run as a flanker for a swarm. Swarm denies actions, Saber mops up with 4/5 dice attacks.

Opportunist is amazing on Fel. You don't know joy until you've rolled 5 hits at point blank range... or had The Czar by Avery Brewing Co., but that's a horse of a different color.

I keep thinking that Jek or Chewie seem like great pilots for Opportunist but I haven't completely filled out those ideas yet.

How does opportunist work on Wedge? He is the highest pilot skill on your squad so he shoots first...most likely the ship he is shooting at will have a focus or evade token so you won't be able to use opportunist. You need someone to strip those tokens first. Opportunist works on lower skilled pilots in your squad.

Jek + R5-D8 + PtL (32 points)

I know I know....I just really like the orkynezz of Jek with PtL! Wes actually would shoot first at PS10, and has R2-D2 to help him stay alive for a wee bit. Wedge shoots second at a ship without a focus or and evade, thanks to Wes, and gets an extra die and lowers the targets agility by 1. Then there is Jek....oh Jek the things you will do and see as long as you don't kill yourself!

I don't understand how everyone is missing the obvious applications, unless you're simply averse to picking low hanging fruit. Soontir Fel is amazing with Opportunist. So is Keyan Farlander, for that matter. I've posted my Fel list (four pilots, all with PS9) a couple of times already, so I won't reproduce it here unless someone asks. Wes + Farlander seems like kind of an open-ended proposition, so it's a good place to start brainstorming a few lists. Here's a couple that I'm considering:

Actually on average that A wing is going to live longer than the X-Wing.

Wes Janson with VI and Wedge with Opportunist is a crowd pleaser. Expensive but effective

any big ship with a gunner, first shot misses but burns targets tokens and stress to boost second shot, especially if you have a heavy laser cannon, thats 2 shots with 4 dice at range 2-3 or a second shot with 5 at range 1

I though secondary weapons didn't get a bonus dice? And your second shot with gunner would be with your primary

His math is right, though I'd be loathe to invest that many points into just one ship.

Anyone PS 8 or less acting as Wes Janson's wingman

I've already championed the Ibtisam + Opportunist HLC combo. 5 dice w/ reroll.

For elite pilots, been thinking Opprtunist may pair well with Boba Fett/Fettigator. He goes nearly last, so he can angle to shoot whomever is exposed.

Also, used Opprtunist on Kyle with blaster turret. 4 dice turrets with stockpiled focuses are win.

Am thinking Chewie is also a good candidate as a R3 turret gives you lots of targets.

Both Push the Limit and Recon Specialist are far better options than Navigator, but that's neither here nor there.

Edit: Nevermind. Re-roll only happens once. Though I suppose if the ship your TL is on is out of Arc or something you would still have her ability. Overkill though.
