Why we won't see prequel ships.

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

I'm not up enough on EU lore to know much about the E wing

Me either. And yet here it comes, and I'll probably buy two. :)

I'm not very thrilled about Defenders, Phantoms and E-Wings. I don't have warm-fuzzies for them because I didn't play video games or read stories featuring them, so they're just kind of ugly weird ships to me. But if I want to play competitively, I'll have no choice but to play against them. Prequel ships would be no different for those who don't like them.

I have no problem with prequel ships, so long as they get their own core set, expansions unique to the game, and minimal overlap.

As to the other TIEs, having played the video games, I'm looking forward to them. I'd like a bit more variability on the Imperial side (think Assault Gunboat).

that should have just led the Empire to go."Hmmm, they are getting some superior fighters over there. Hey Seinar, give us something just as good....or else"

But that is exactly what happened. It takes years to design and develop and test and then manufacture a new combat vehicle. The x-wing was an amazing fighter, and a few years later the empire started fielding interceptors and developing other superiority fighters in response.

Yeah, in the real world, they had more money to do some additional ship models for the later movies, but it dovetails really well with the in universe explanation.

Yes, technology develops over time, but its only a 20 year difference, more or less. In the US military, we still use radios made during the vietnam war(hate those things), our tanks pretty old too. They used the M1 Abrahms during the 1st Gulf War, and the M1-a1/a2 during the 2nd Gulf War. Granted, there were many mods made to the tanks, like bigger guns, but they are still pretty much the same thing 25 years later.

We also still use lots of the fighter planes that were made decades ago. Granted, they are being phased out but wont be gone for a while. The F-16 was made in the 70s but its still going(with plenty of upgrades and mods)

The F-22, which is newer, is the stealth fighter and probablly better than the F-16, but that doesnt make the F-16 obsolete.

And you gotta give to Lucas, if he had better technology when he made the OT like when he made ep. III then we certainly would have seen x wings flying in crazy dogfights with ties during the death star trench run, just like the opening scene of ep III. So saying that the prequel fighters are better than the OT fighters is a little bogus IMO. Ideas develop over time, which is why the prequel ships seem better than the OT. Just think what it would have been like if the prequels were the movies he made first, and the difference in space combat to the OT if he made those only a few years ago...

Your first point is ok I would just point out that their politics are diffrent than ours in ways and so the rate of technological evolution is faster.

FYI regarding Platinum plated sparrow spitters is that despite their capabilities on paper they have serious flaws. They have been recorded having forward wing suport issues, weather proofing issues (having water getting into through maintance pannels and ruining the internal structure, rain melting the radar obsorbing paint off), maintance issue caused by the fact lots on internal componets were created by a third party from mexico, the parts CANT be swapted between 22s, computerissues would cause the system tasked with delivering air to the pilot would turn off causing pilots to black out, unknown chemical agent was released by plane causing ground crews to almost passout, it has no attack capabilities the USAF lied about it being able to do soo, it is vulnerable to detection from russian weather xband radar, it has no defense from LIDAR (funny that our naval laser system has a lidsr type scan function) the 22 has no capabilities to alter its radar signature from the sides nor below or above (even then A F-14 Tom Turkey can have its radar guided camera on even if the return looks like a small bird the camera will see a 22) the 22 avionics cant handle having a H.M.T.S.intergrated with the system yet Persian Tomcats can and so can Superbugs ansd I think Vipers.

Biggest problem though is that alot of the 22 pilots cant handle the thrust vectoring which causes a major loss of energy which will cause a stall. More F-22s have been lost because of this issue than any aircraft currently used by the North American military.

Oh and the F-35 is not safe ether. The A B and C test fleets have run into serious problems, just about every A B and C has been found to have major cracking in the airframes or turbos.

I have to disagree with your last point. None of the characteristics shown by ep 1-3 ships beats the characteristics shown for ships of ep 4-6. In ep 1 the turning rad and speed suck roll is ok. You dont see much in 2, in 3 most the ships are flying in interceptor formations as well as flying with the characteristics of most real world interceptors.like floggers. They all mostly go in a straight line. You hardly see any cleaver dog fighting.

Now jumping to ep 4-6 you can see better than great dog fighting. These ships do things we cant do. Did you ever notice how rapidly fast a TIE Fighter rudder movements were? Check out ep IV durning the sw dog fights with a TIE chasing a X-Wing. Also youll notice that the only crafts to have a computer linked firing control in ep 1-3 is the 170 and the V-Wing to a limited degree. Every fighter in ep 4-6 has computer targeting link capabilities. Every other fighter in ep 1-3 can only fire straight ahead including Jedi Interceptors. In every OT movie esp ep 6 they show lots of high speed manuvers that require high refleaxes and super precision controls we dont have and they never show in ep 1-3 and clone wars. One example is the DS TWO core run. Look how fast the Interceptors jink and roll within a tight space to avoid a explosion caused by a TIE Fighter.
