Imperial Tanker Transport kitbash/scratchbuild

By Millennium Falsehood, in X-Wing

Yet another large Imperial ship. :D

After I found out that my parents were getting me the Rebel Transport, I thought there needed to be some sort of Imperial counterpart for it. Something that might be a sitting duck which needed defense, or perhaps as a Q-ship that can send out electronic warfare signals.

With that in mind, I decided to go about designing an Imperial transport of some kind. I thought about a straight up freighter, but then I figured that perhaps something more purpose-built would be suitable. Then it hit me: I still had the two enormous first stages from an old Airfix Saturn V kit, the same kit parts used to make the engines for the Y-wings! I set about cutting them up and gluing them together, and then I thought how cool it would be to have some kind of inter-connecting section with a ton of pipes and things.

Here's what I have so far:

The thingie on top is a refueling probe for starships. I'll probably put a few more on it in stowed configuration, but this will be the one for large ships.

Here's a better picture of it:

The end of it will have a small mechanical hookup with a line that attaches to it. The other end will receive hinge-looking pieces as well as a hose that attaches to it and feeds into the midsection.

Lastly, here's the mid-section:

All those hoses were from car kits. I'll be putting in a bunch more finer ones made from brass as well as small conduits on the cone-shaped end of this section.

There will be two more short sections added to this: the bridge on the nose, and a small engine section.

I look forward to seeing how it turns out. makes me think of the fleet of random civilian ships from original Battlestar Galactica.

Great stuff! If you keep the use of Imperial symbols limited or even do without you could also use it as part of different scenario's or together with the Transport as part of an Imperial raid on a Reb convoy.

Well, I like your idea, but this is strictly Imperial. It'll be decorated in Imperial logos. I'll be doing other custom freighters later for the Rebel fleet, but the Imps needed something for theirs. ;)

It's a lightsaber.

Or if you've read the book Darksaber

My favourite scratch yet!

Connecty-Tubey-thingy is a very nice aesthetic touch, I look forward to watching this progress :)

Good job so far; can't wait to see the progress

Saturn V?

In addition to what gentgeen said, it's also the most powerful machine ever built.

sorry if you thought I didn't understand what it was.

I typed before reading the whole post and boy that made me look stupid.....

I recognized the shape and asked before reading....HAHAHAHA

on that note. I was around and remember watching the launch of the very first one of these....

and it looks awesome so far...(brain kicks in and has thoughts of building a fleet of support ships)

And Michael Collins, who everyone forgets about because he stayed in the command module while Neil and Buzz went to the surface.

Thank you! :D Yeah, I do wonder about people who don't know what a Saturn V is. ;)
