range ruler 100mm each section?

By treybert, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I was measuring the range stick and I noticed a few things. The overall length is definitely 300mm, but each section varies. On my stick's red side, it is 100mm on each section. On my green side, the first section is almost at 101mm. That makes range 2 at 201mm, and range 3 still ends at 300mm. A single millimeter seems insignificant, but sometimes it makes all the difference.

I would assume this is due to printing inaccuracies, but I just wanted to check if there was some official ruling on the... ummm ruler. I plan on making simple sticks at exactly 100/200/300 so there is no debate on if it is at range 1/2/3.

Word is the inaccuracies you're seeing come from the punching process. It bends the ruler just slightly. If you measured it @ 300 mm, I'd go with equally spaced out 100 mm subsections. I don't know the "official" ruler measurement, but there are a lot of 3rd party companies that sell "official" range rulers. Maybe check out one of their sites for measurements if you can't find anything on FFG's.

If it matters to you, you agree with your opponent which exact ruler and which side to use before the game, just like with movement templates. (See the tournament rules.)

On some range rulers (FFG from core kit) you can look at it on the edge and see that the 2 sides of your ruler are not equal.

You also may want to grab all your range rulers and compare total lengths because those can vary as well.

In addition the Store Championship 2014 acrylic rulers are ever so slightly shorter than the ones from the core sets.

If it bugs you compare your stuff and decide which you prefer. For me I've chosen not to worry about it even though every once in a while it would actually be relevant.
