New To Game: What should I buy?

By selderane, in X-Wing

I can finally afford to get into X-Wing but I'm not sure what I should buy, and how many of those items I should have. Any help would be appreciated!

It would help if you told us how much you have to (are willing to) spend and if there is a side you have a preference for.

But without further ado;

-Buy one of each and every expansion(blister/whatnot) you want.

-Add a second core game

-Play

-See what you like (to have more of)

-buy more till your wallet cries so hard even hell shows pity. :lol:

After that get one of each ship for upgrade cards, the transport is very nice but wait last on it if it's a money issues.

The Shuttle is the only way to get the Adv Sensor Card which is the must useful upgrade card In the game. If you plan on playing b-wings you need at least one shuttle. I would tell you to make the shuttle high on the list.

Agree with the general gist of the prior responses - two core sets + one of each of the expansions (including the X-wing and TIE fighter expansions, as they contain unique upgrades/pilots) is the way to go to get started. If getting one of each of the expansions is too much of an initial volley, just pick the expansions that look appealing. Better to diversify in the first instance rather than to get playsets of individual ship types, IMO.

Miniature Market.com has some great deals on ships if you want to play less for them

Forget it buy 10 transports and 10 corvettes. Go in your drive way and pretend your car is a star destroyer and have fun.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I've purchased two core sets, the Falcon, Slave I, and an X-Wing.

It's going to be a long time before I can play, so I'm just trying to build my collection over time until I get back home.

I might say to go and look at all of the other posts that basically ask this exact same question. The answers are basically all the same.

I see that other posts came in while I was looking and would say that two cores, Falcon, Slave, and X-Wing aren't a bad start. If you're going to work both sides you'll need to boost the Imperials some; a TIE Fighter expansion is a good idea unless you could get the pilots from it (Howlrunner and Backstabber mostly) easier through other means. With 3 X-Wings and a Falcon you may not have a lot of variety in your ships but you have plenty of three ship lists you could run.

Like I said, I'm not going to play for a long time. So I'm just building my collection. My plan is to drop about $200 a month to do that.

Oh, and I bought my stuff from Coolstuffinc.com. They are the same price (that I saw) as Minaturemarket.com but I get a discount because I've purchased a lot of CCG stuff from them on top!

First, sounds like economics are a concern. So, buy the main box, an extra x- wing and 2 B-wings. Minimal purchase, best Rebel list. If you want to stay in the game, then you have alot of options.

Basically the list suggested is the most used Rebel list.

This is a very good suggestion. I'm not a part of the "go buy two core sets now" crowd. Will you want another one later? Maybe. But for a new player, you want new toys and diversity. After the Core, if you're a Rebel player, the Falcon and B-wings should be first on your list. For the Empire, I love the Slave 1 and the Imperial Aces.

If $200 a month is "economically concerned" I'd bet there are a lot of people who like to spend that much on hobbies. It may not be a "full" collection now but it is certainly a massive chunk of change. At the MM that is like 20 fighters! Is there anyone playing 100 point games who couldn't make a good squadron for $100 using MM prices as the guideline?

Based on what I'm paying...

HSF = $56. (Core+Xwing+Falcon)

Bloody Daggers = $56

Biggs walks the dogs = $56

With tax, $60 buys a fun and well proven 100 point list.

At 200 dollars per month, get 4 of everything. You'll be able to field every list up to and including Epic battles.

You'll have all the upgrades you need as well and can play scenarios to your heart's content.

I may be missing a lot of upgrades but I believe these are the correct interpretations:

Bloody Daggers = Dagger x2, Red x2

Biggs walks the dogs = Bigs, X-Wing, B-Wing (x2)

The short answer for either is Core + X-Wing + B-Wing (x2) where Core = $26 and each fighter = $10.

Throw in the Falcon at $20 and you've got more options.
