Anyway, am I right in reading this as the EU is still out but they are basically setting up a new canon with the mentioned upcoming releases? Likewise, having the Legacy books still available as "inspiration" seems weird, why stuff way at the end but not all before? Seems to invite an awkward attempt to justify Legacy content that can only result in superficial contexts.

It's simple. They are keeping the old stuff around, because it still sells and they can still make money off of licensing the content, say to FFG. I'm glad I don't have to rush to buy all the old books (though I do need to prioritize the Dark Horse Omnimbi).
