3B-2A

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

No its not a droid it is my attempt at an Anti-TIE-Swarm list.

I told my friend (he doesn't own the game or have nearly as much experience as I do with the game) that he could have 125 points for out next game. I am pretty sure he is going to throw a gazillion TIEs at me.

I haven't had a ton of luck with naked B-wings, but I wanted to try them out again.

3 Blues with Adv Sensors is 75.. 2 Greens with PTL is 44 for a total of 119.. That isn't a bad list IMO..

For a full 125, upgrade the Blues to Daggers..

If you think he's going to bring a bunch of Academy Pilots, don't bother upgrading for pilot skill. If you are going for 100pts, 3B2A is a decent option, use the 2A to flank and try and assassinate Howlrunner. If you also get 125, throw in another B-Wing. You're going to want as many hulls as possible.

I only get 100 points, but I need to be ready to fight 125. I don't have any upgrades on any my ships.

The 3bwing 2 awings sounds pretty nice

I got my butt kicked by 2-a 2-b 1-X wing last night.

Was pretty rough

If you really think he's bringing a huge swarm, Assault missiles and Siesmic charges FTW. You're looking at Howl+ 8TIEs, so there's a good chance of you losing a B-Wing (at least) in the opening round of shooting.

Hell, if he brings Howl and 8x Obsidians he's going to shoot first too.

I thought about a bunch of A's all with Assault missiles, but I think it would take him (overly) by surprise. I don't want to rub his nose in the fact that I just know this game sooo much better than he does. I want him to have fun too.

Yeah, introducing a person to a game by crushing their face isn't exactly the best way to get them to play it again ;)

If you'd like to make sure everyone has fun while still being fairly competitive against the swarm I might suggest 2 or 3 ORS with APL and IA. They are a decent counter to the swarm when you have initiative and don't feel like quite a hard counter like Assault Missiles. They actually tend to be fun to fly against because its usually pretty funny to watch someone trying to the giant pancakes into other ships. I know its not a 3B 2A list but even sticking one in a list tends to make swarms fly a little smarter.

Actually I think ORS is a dirty trick ship to use against a beginner. Even without APLs and IA, a beginner is going to bump into them constantly (and his own ships too, especially if he uses a swarm, which is not an easy build to learn on). When a new player sees that his ships can only shoot forward and yours shoot 360, and when he bumps he can't shoot and takes damage, but his opponent takes no possible damage, he's gonna think that rebels are OP BS and might draw the conclusion that the game is horribly unbalanced, etc.

In fact, I'd suggest running much a smaller game and give him a chance to learn the basics (how not to bump into your own ships, why landing on asteroids is so bad, how to use bumps to your advantage or avoid them when it would be disadvantageous, etc). Giving him extra points provides no satisfaction: if he loses, he will feel like a tool (you beat him with a handicap) and if he wins, its not because of his skill, its because he had extra points of ships....hard to be super pleased in either case, imo.

BBBAA won my LGS store championships - a formidable list. I only wish I could have played against it1
