Help with a themed YT build

By conormacmillen, in X-Wing

Howdy all,

Being a longtime Imperial player, I recently took the plunge and had a custom YT commissioned from ZombieHedgehog. It is beautiful, and I am really looking forward to getting it on the table. I call it the Last Light and the fluff would be that it was an independent smuggler that was the last ship off Alderaan before it was destroyed.

Problem is, i have almost zero experience with rebels. I would like a list that is both fairly competitive and relatively fluffy/themed.

I want to use a Outer Rim smuggler for the YT, as opposed to one of the named pilots, to represent it being an original ship. I am currently thinking:

Outer Rim Smuggler (27)
Gunner (5)
Millennium Falcon (1)
I am ok with putting the MF title on it, as a way to represent a relatively customized YT.
My question then would be, what would you add to the YT, and what would you put with it. I have at least 1 of each rebel and imperial ship (i do not have the x-wing expansion though), Imperial Aces, and an additional shuttle and YT.
Help me make a list that would be fun give the Last Light a chance to shine.

Well, Gunner is a great start. Having just played in my first tournament, I have to say it is sick how powerful that upgrade is. Marksmanship is also quite good, but you need to declare it as an action, so it negates the MF title if you are declaring Marksmanship instead of the evade.

Chewie is great - being able to shrug off a crit is always nice.

Personally though, I would go with Engine Upgrade. As your PS is fairly low anyway, you will most likely move first, and the ability to boost with EU is always nice to have, especially on a big ship.

Why are you limiting yourself to the generic though? I get that it is for fluff, but you really are limiting a lot of your options as well - no missile slot, no EPT etc..

Taking a named pilot allows you the ability to take an EPT - Push the Limit or Expert Handling would be awesome for the YT.. And assault missiles or Concussions also are great.

Here's one idea.

Add in a X and B Wing, and a merc copilot to the YT-1300

Garven Dreis (27)

X-Wing (26), R2 Astromech (1)

Dagger Squadron Pilot (38)

B-Wing (24), Advanced Sensors (3), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Engine Upgrade (4)

Garven will go before the YT so he can hand off his focus token to it to help defend it. The B-Wing is pretty deadly on it's own, so you could use it to snipe at long range.

Pair it up with another ORS with both sporting Navigators, Intel Agents, and Anti-Pursuit Lasers and a pair of A-Wings for escort. Unfortunately I don't know if that would work with your collection.

I believe it is hard to make the ORS "shine" in a squadron because it inevitably gets compared to the named ships so there isn't all that much you can do with it. Now here is another alternative that could put the YT at the center of attention:

ORS + APL

Gold Y-Wing + Ion Turret (x2)

Roark + Ion Turret

99 points

How's this work? You ionize enemy ships and force them to crash into the ORS subjecting them to the APL every round. Roark would allow someone to shoot a lot earlier than they normally would but you could also take him out and use 25 points for something else. Strong choices included Biggs, B-Wing w/ Ion or Advanced Sensors, PTL Green +3 points, 2 Bandits when the Z-95s come out.

Hmz, keeping it in theme, you could add Roark, a smuggler who flew The Moldy Crow.

Outer Rim Smuggler

Gunner

Mercenary Copilot

Engine Upgrade

Roark Garnet

Ion Cannon Turret

Recon Specialist

Tala Squadron

Hull Upgrade

Tala Squadron

Hull Upgrade

The trouble with this list, of course, is that it's not available yet so you can't show off your new shiny.

So, drop the Tala's.

We could give Wedge a chance. After all, he has been known to consort with smugglers. From time to time.

Wedge, wtih squad leader or swarm tactics could be fun, with points to spare for a shield upgrade.
