The insider claims that

- The full title of the film is ‘Star Wars: Episode 7 – The Order of the Jedi. The film was rumoured to be called ‘A New Dawn’ but that has recently been revealed to be an ‘in-canon’ novel to be released soon.

- Oscar Winner Lupita Nyong’o is also in the cast. She will be playing a character called ‘Asajj Ventress’. Nyong’o was not officially announced in yesterdays report but was one of the first names to have signed up after Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.

- Daisy Ridley will be playing a member of the Solo Family.

- Max Von Sydow will be providing his voice only to a character that will run right through the new Trilogy.

- Luke Skywalker will be the ‘Obi Wan’ type character of the new trilogy.

- Han Solo is the High Commander of the New Republic

- Leia is now the ‘Queen Regent of the Republic’

- The Big bad is not a Sith Lord

I'm of course leaving out the three dozen F-bombs Bay dropped in that sentence alone. Seriously that public "PR break down" a while back Bay had was almost entirely about him not being able to string more then two words together without swearing...

While I'm happy (though not exactly excited) about the new films, that was my reaction to the rumored title. More sabre wanking... Yay. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to get at least the first few books and see the movies when they come out on Amazon or Netflix for streaming (to many bad experenices at theatres), but I'm not going to get hyped over moar jedi. Then again, there is the old saying never judge a book by its cover and that could very well apply here.

What if Serkis is doing the body work for force ghost obi wan and/or vader? CG could provide the likeness, and Serkis the 'physicality'. Possibly even a force ghost of someone else, maybe palpatine.

I kind of agree and I kind of don't. I'm not a huge Jedi fan, but let's be honest "laser swords and space mind-magic" are a big part of what separates SW from other Sci-Fi. So There is going to have to be Jedi. It of course made sense in the Prequels, since that was Clone Wars era, I hope that post OT movies have a good blend of Jedi and "other".

Are there still plans to make one off movies or was that just a rumor? I'd love a Movie about Stormtroopers or smugglers or some non-force aligned group like that.

Naboo was a democratic monarchy, there are constitutional monarchies today. While not strictly Republics, the name gets abused enough that seeing a "republic" with some form of an elected monarch is not completely unimaginable. Leia was after all a princess, and people other than Han seemed to use that term for her without irony.

Note also that it is "regent" that usually denotes a temporary position. It could even be ceremonial.

That being said, I find it hard to believe Leia would willingly return to that sort of power structure.

On a different note...

1st...I am BUMMED that the EU will either be Gutted or revised! For someone who invested a lot of Money and Time and Effort to read these books and have a vested interest in the characters of the EU I am Bummed / PISSED / DISAPPOINTED that they will just be guidelines for the "New" Canon. I mean where is the casting for Mara??!! Or Ben??!!!

2nd...The New Cast looks cool, but all this rumormongering about who is doing what and when and where and stuff, well, I guess when someone who is ignorant wants to prove themselves smart they should shut the F up...(Not the OP but the guy who broke the story) well then *sigh*

3rd...The OG Cast were unknowns before Star Wars and Cultural Icons Afterwards so let us hope that this new batch will be the same.

4th...Looking at this cast, my theory is that Why cant the "Big Baddy" be Thrawn??? Think about it...He is a guy who is Chiss Non-Force user and Max Von Sydow's can be Jorus Cabath....So Why Not??!! Now is this substantiated?? NO but looking at this cast...Its Obvious that the female will be Jaina & I read an article that one of the other actors will be a Han Solo-esque character so he would be Talon Karrde.

I'm kind of torn about how I feel about the idea of Han basically taking on the military role of Ackbar.

On one hand I loved the scenes in X-Wing: Solo Command focusing on Han commanding a fleet. So I'm happy that the movies and new novels might include more scenes like that.

On the other hand I don't see Han dealing with the diplomatic and political aspects of a military high commander's role well. In fact I could easily see him pissing some diplomats or senators off and sparking a Republic civil war. Honestly I think Lando would be a better choice for military high commander than Han because he seems to be better on the diplomatic and political fronts of the position than Han. Plus of course Lando isn't romantically involved with or married to the Republic's head of state.

I always liked those because Han made a good foil to Zsinj; both were cunning characters with a bunch of tricks up their sleeves. But Solo was not the high commander in that series. He was in command of a small task force. He had the Mon Remonda and maybe a dozen or so other smaller craft supporting? The role is significantly different. Or at least read that way to me.

Is it just me, or would the (presumable) head of state and the top military commander being married to each other present a massive conflict of interest in a Republic? However, this hinges on the 'Queen Regent of the Republic' being an actual political office and not a ceremonial one.
