Trying to create a decent deck for solo

By BioDio, in Strategy and deck-building

Hello there,

I got the core set and Mirkwood cicle since each one release date. At the time I was playing co-op with a friend, now that I decided to return to middle earth, I'm going solo with it.

I always built Duo-Colored decks, mainly - 2x Leardership Heroes (always with Aragorn) and 1x Spirit Hero (Always Eowyn).

Leadership I used for questing and fight when needed, Eowyn on the other hand, was my main questing princess.

At the time I was really good at building decks, since I played some CCG games, but nowadays, I lost that skill, I've been tinkering a deck, and played like 5-6 times the 1st quest, and only beat it once (46 score). Well, I wasn't that lucky either, because, of all the games I've done, at the 3rd phase, I always got the wrong path... god, I hate that spider so much!!!

Right now, my other leadership hero is Gloin.

Tips that I would apreciate:

- How much % (average) should I have in my deck regarding Allies?

- Good Heroes / colors combo for solo

- What should I have in mind while I build a deck.

I was thinking in changing my heroes and color to - Gloin and Ironfoot (Leadership) + Glorfindel (Lore)

This way, I could make Gloin a tank to farm resources, and make Glorfindel or other lore card to heal him. The problem is that, I don't have much damage and a very high starting threat!

BONUS QUESTION - Dunhere (Spirit Hero) - DĂșnhere can target enemies in the staging area when he attacks alone. When doing so, he gets +1 Attack.

1st - The staging area here means - the monsters that have a very high threat and can't engage players yet? Or any enemy that engaged or not a player?

2nd - When he attacks alone means:

- When he is the only character attacking anything?

or

- When he is the only character attacking a specific enemy?

Thanks for the help!

Hi. I found here a very strong Deck - only with cars from the Core set. You can give it a try, as base for your own Deck building.

He beat Shadow and Flame with that deck.. ... wow

Gonna give it a try in the 1st core game quest, and try to understand why it is so good (I'm not a fan of tri-color).

After one or two plays in the 1st quest, I'll do the 2nd quest once to see how it goes. After that, I'll do my own deck based on this experience.

Thanks for the share, that deck looks broken as hell!

One more bonus question - If I buy The 1st Hobbit box, and create one of the themed decks that are suggested on the rule book, and solo with it, how hard can it be?

If you are playing solo, don't build just one of the decks on the rule book for The Hobbit: Over Hill and Under Hill. They are ok if played together but they are not meant to be played alone(at least I sure wouldn't...) So to answer your question, it would be very very hard to beat the quests with just one of the decks. I'd suggest to either play two-handed and use both decks listed on the rule book, or build your own deck (a dwarf deck if you want). You could could make a Thorin, Nori, Ori deck that is quite nice. Or you could use the very powerful Dain, Thorin, Ori deck. The quests on Over Hill and Under Hill are all pretty tough. The first one can be beaten easily once you have a good strategy but you will probably get pounded your first time. The second quest is fun and can really very in difficulty. Its a good all around quest. The third one is very hard and lots of people hate it (I don't). The first Hobbit box is a good buy; I recommend it.

To answer your Dunhere question,

During the Encounter phase, all enemies with threat lower than yours, engage you. Then during the combat phase, the enemies engaged with you attack, you resolve the attacks, and then you get to strike back. This is when you can use Dunhere to either attack an enemy engaged with you like normal, or you can use his ability and attack any enemy still left in the staging area. He is attacking alone when he attacks one enemy alone. Usually nobody else will attack the same enemy in the staging area anyways.

Hope this answers your questions.

Have fun,

Khamul

Thanks for the reply =)
