OK, I pulled all that info in here:

If anything is wrong let me know. Hopefully I get full TO reports soon.

Tarn Mison

++R7 Astromech

Nine in a Row. Not a single loss in six rounds of Swiss and a Top Eight Playoff.

He had:

  • Winner: Chewbacca + Push the Limit + Nien Nunb + C3-P0 + Millennium Falcon; Biggs; Tarn + R7

Note: Gunners are over-rated against agility 1 targets, of which there were plenty!

This is correct, that is the list I ran.

Yes, not taking anything away from him, he played very well, but I found it interesting that it was sort of a falcon list that matched up very well against my swarm, but would've been interesting to see how it shook out against a high end phantom. Having to slug through biggs absorbing the first volley of the swarm like he usually does, THEN turn and keep enough guns on the other 2 tanky ships is rough. In hindsight, I could've come at it from a much better angle that might have helped quite a bit in the first few rounds of firing but who knows. Obviously a falcon is still a falcon against a phantom, but it could be rough not having the gunner against 4 greens + at least a focus or w/e every time. Maybe there will be a trend of falcon builds shifting over towards this a bit if people become afraid to run phantoms because there are too many falcons, and then the phantoms might do better etc. and the ebb and flow will continue. I was feeling pretty good heading into the top 8 with a swarm and seeing no phantoms in it and all those falcons. And I was 2-0 on the day against falcons already including wins against the #4 seed and a player from our meta that was top 8 at Orlando regional. But I knew it was going to be a whole different animal with biggs lol.

I would just like to announce that total attendance at Regionals this year has been a little over 2,000 , at 66 confirmed tournaments.

Attendance at tournaments with reported data: 1,970*

*Not sure what Chicago is, I assumed 70, not 84.

We still have 3 tournaments with no reports:

Oslo, Norway (attendance unknown)

week 12: Mexico, D.F., Mexico (18)

week 13: Toruń, Poland (29)

Total unreported attendance: 47+

Total attendance: 2,017+

not bad.. though i'm rather surprised that the number isn't much larger given the popularity of the game at a world wide level

i guess the competitive side of this gaming is insanely smaller than the casual aspect

It is, for sure. But even that small segment is at least a very good number for an FFG game, and it is definetly the fastest growing. Also, since there are only a couple tournaments per region/country etc. and it's not a "big money magic the gathering "type thing maybe fewer people are able to travel 6+ hours, or justify it. Also since all of these events are compressed within 3 months, maybe inconvenient timing for people is a factor. I guess some of this is unavoidable and always true. I think the game is doing very well. Next year could be 2500.

Top 8 : (Lost to Runner-up) Whisper (Advanced Cloaking Device, Veteran Instincts, Gunner, Fire Control System), Soontir Fel (Push The Limit), Omicron Group Pilot (Darth Vader)

Some personal comments:

I expected way more Falcon builds (4/22), only mine with Han at PS9 made the cut (I was 3rd after five rounds of swiss with 4-1 and unfortunately got the one list I was afraid of-the TIE swarm (still, it was a close game with Han going down in the last TIE shot of the game).

I think there were the same amount of Phantom builds as Falcon builds (4/22).

In general the successful squads all have high PS builds (5 or higher, most had 7 or 9). However, the winner was an all PS 2 Blue B-WIngs (they just don't go away do they).

Not a single TIE Defender, TIE Advanced, Y-Wing, or HWK could be seen.

It was a great gathering with awesome players coming down from Stockholm as well as crossing the bridge from Denmark.

i like the intel agent tech on the phantom. Not sure where they r gonna move to? intel agent them at the start of the activation phase and when u uncloak u can position urself in just the right spot :)

Ya unfortunately one guy got confused which modification is supposed to go on phantoms. Having whisper actually able to decloak AND fire, which is the whole point of the phantom really would've probably been pretty useful.

The winning list for the arizona regional, which was the first one with wave 4 stuff used a whisper with int agent and was a 97 point build choosing initiative for firing purposes and having the agent for other 9 ps etc.

At Chicago this past weekend, I was amazed how little the phantom showed up in the final tables. Four falcons in the top 8 builds though with 1 phantom build.

I think Phantom will be around but it will be flown by the people who really know how to use it. My guess people go from falcon to the YT-2400 once Wave 5 pops into stores though and the imps will also get turrets. This is going to be one short lived meta.

Just to be clear and throw in my naive 2 cents, there were a bunch of people flying soontir and RGP pilots well. I suspect echo and whisper will be like that. I just don't see phantoms as auto includes anymore.

I still hate that ACD card but I got lucky this weekend.

I was able to make top 8 at Cambridge with my three ship Rebel build:

Corran Horn + Engine Upgrade + R2-D2 + Advanced Sensors + Push the Limit (49)
Roark Garnet + Ion Cannon Turret + Nien Nunb (25)
Tarn Mison + R7 Astromech (25)
99 points
Round 1: Bye
Round 2: Beat a Doom Shuttle and 6 TIEs
Round 3: Lost to Han and Chewie
Round 4: Lost to 3 B-Wings with HLC and a Bandit
Round 5: Beat a Corran, 2 B-Wings and a Z-95
Round 6: Beat Echo and 4 TIEs
7th place after swiss.
First round after the cut: Lost to 2 Firesprays and a Shuttle
I did not see any other 3 small ship Rebel builds anywhere that day.

Just curious, did the two Firesprays and Shuttle run Recon Specs on the Firesprays and Gunner +FCS (or Tactician) on the shuttle?

The Firesprays did have Recon Specialists, I don't remember what the Shuttle had.

Here is the top 8 from Chicago. I've asked the tournament organizer to post the lists for the top 16 which should be available later today.

Winner: Blue+Adv. Sen. x3, Bandit x2

Second: Soontir+PTL, Yorr, OMG + FCS x 2

Top 4: Han + EH + Luke + MF, Corran + PTL + R2D2 + FCS (Lost to winner)

Top 4: Han + Predator + Luke + C3P0 + Engine + MF, Bandit x 3 (Lost to Second)

Top 8: Whipser + VI + ADC + Weapons Enginer, Kath + VI + Rebel Captive, Backstabber

Top 8: BH + Gunner, Academy + Stealth x3, Obsidian + Stealth

Top 8: Han + 3 bandits

Top 8: Han + 3 bandits

I'm pretty sure the last two builds are identical to the top 4 Han+ bandits list, but I'm not positive. I was Top 4 with the Han + Corran build, so I am fairly certain of the builds spelled out since I played most of them.

Sounds like the build one of the guys in my local group took. Pretty tough list, and he's a good flyer to boot, though I suppose that's stating the obvious for making the top 4 at a Regional. I'll have to ask him about it on Wednesday (our LGS X-Wing night).

I got 9th place at Chicago regionals with an interesting build I like to think. Went 5-1 with a modified.

2 B-wings with FCS

1 Z-95 Bandit

1 A-wing Prototype

1 Y-wing Gold with ion turret.

bummed i missed top 8 due to SOS but loved meeting everyone and hanging out. Wouldn't miss it for the world. Learned a lot too.

not bad.. though i'm rather surprised that the number isn't much larger given the popularity of the game at a world wide level

The huge travel distances for many people are a factor. Because I was the judge at the Cambridge one, I couldn't play in the one in my own backyard, and chose not to make the 7 hour drive to Ottawa or 9 hours to Pittsburgh for the next closest ones.

I really enjoy running events, so was glad to do it. But also a little disappointed. You need folks who know the game well to judge, but they are also the folks who want to play! Got to play in several Store Championships, but that was not quite the same as last year being able to play in Regionals in Central Mass, Connecticut, Maine, and then play and judge in Cambridge.

It does make sense for the big tournies to have a dedicated not-playing judge to have their full attention, so I wish Regionals would get changed to States!

@RedWilde,

I came a couple times during the day to see games at the Cambridge Regional as I could not attend. Would you mind sharing the top 8 lists as they are still not showing here ?

Believe me - Executor and I are really hoping it gets changed to States/Provincials - we either had to drive from Vancouver BC to Alberta or to Spokane Wa. Either way, 7+ hour drive.

I can confirm that that was the list, (It was FCS) since I was the one that took him down in the next round. (I was the winner.) He had a repainted shuttle.

In case the lists aren't posted yet, my winning list (in Cambridge) was Whisper + VI + Navigator + ACD, Howlrunner + swarm tactics + hull upgrade, 3x Academy pilot.

2nd place was Echo + VI + Tactician + ACD, Omicron + Vader, 3x Academy pilot.

Thanks Piqsid. Do we have confirmation on what the attendance was? I have seen both 70 and 84 tossed around.

It was definitely 70. They had 84 preregistered but had about 20 no-shows and then accepted a handful of walk-ons.

ah that's where my confusion was.

Just Pm'ed Daniel and he confirmed it was 70 just like Piqsid and Sozin said. My bad for the confusion.
