Look all the bickering aside, the point was don't anyone get it in their heads that 3 small ship rebel or e-wing squads or w/e are going to be running gangbusters cause they won 12 person tournaments. Great for the person that one, but understand that it's kind of a stretch to really call it a "regional" in terms of how it represents the meta. Again, I did finish top 8 at a regional bigger than both of these events combined, and my other two friends since high school that I constantly play with and went along to the tourney finished top 4 and champion respectively, and had to beat a top 16 2013 world's player to do it. I/we have some understanding to back this up. I'm sorry if I hurt Chile's feelings.

I have no dog in this fight, I am just asking you to stop! At least in this thread, start a new topic with your thoughts about how the meta is going.

A couple of points.

1) you are coming off like an ass. Stop while you are ahead.

2) Its a dice game. No matter how amazing you think you are, the game comes down to luck. You need to roll hits to win, anyone can loose with a bad string of dice.

3) Meta's are local and are dependent on a lot of different things like cultural mentality, how many people follow everything said on forums like sheep, availability of product.

Seriously undermining someone's achievement because of a lower turn out shows you have no class. Time to grow up.

Zoccola, I would also ask you to stop as well. MajorJuggler has put in so much work into giving us this information I would hate to see it get locked. By calling names and getting into a pissing match it only helps flame a dangerous situation. If this thread gets locked we all lose.

Why don't you create a thread for this instead if you think this must be somewhat discussed or brought to people's attention ? Wouldn't it be way more constructive ?

As well intended as your post is, Bobby has stop responding to the situation. He has shown respect to MajorJuggler's thread. We all need to just let this die.

So to everyone, Lets talk about the upcoming Regionals this weekend. We have the Plano TX regional this weekend and we could see SableGryphon show up again as he's been quite lately.

This thread is a very valuable resource to the community and is easily on track to become the 2nd most-viewed topic all time on these forums before the 2014 Regionals season ends. So yes, lets please all keep it civil and relevant to Regionals Results!

Fly Casual :)

I have the top 16 results from the Nuernburg Regional via email. They had 6 rounds of Swiss 60 minutes each, and did NOT have a Final Cut to elimination rounds. That is unfortunate since it could have really helped sort out which squads and players would have risen to the top. Here are the results.

wow, Talk about a list of squads that lets the Phantom rule. 7 of the 16 list featured the Phantom while only two 360 Turret ships made the top 16. There seems to be not much resistance to the Phantom in this event . I would love to see a break down of all the squads that were played that day. It would seem very few YT-1300 were played. 5 of the top were list that the #3 list could have done well against. what a truly disappointing decision they made to not play the championships rounds.

Sadly even in the german nationals we won't see any cut :/

So yeah a very poor & disappointing decision.

The lack of a single elimination bracket may have contributed to these standings.

The only differences we'd see would be a change to the Top 8/finalist, so the information is mostly there anyways. We can make some guesses as to the winner after a cut to Top 8 though! :P

This event would likely be won by a Phantom list. With 3 list in the top 8 having Phantoms it stands a high chance. the two list that have the best chance to rolling through the Phantom list are 3 and 6. Since the are at 3 and 6, they will face each other in the first round of the knock out rounds. this will open the door for the Phantoms.

Sadly even in the german nationals we won't see any cut :/

Any information on why exactly it is being run this way? I know that it was mentioned that it's being run under rules from the German Distributor and that's why no 3PO (which is weird that Wave 4 has shown up, but no Tantive yet), but I didn't catch the reasons for no final cut. May have been lost in the other discussion though.

Informations on the regional or the nationals? For the first: i don't know - wasn't there. For the second: the German Distributor will hold a big event in an old castle, where we will also find the other nationals of the "great systems" of FFG. The event is reduced to a weekend and the capacity maybe good but not that good.

So they need to divide the nationals and hold them on seperate days. The Android Netrunner nationals as a much bigger event than the X-Wing nationals will took place on the (for us bedder day - 'cause of the travel a.s.o) saturday - so there is only the sunday left, where the X-Wing players can play their battles - with an estimate attendance of 64 players ...

It's still time to late august, so perhaps they might decide that we will have a Cut - but thats another story for later days.

Absolutely, I got third place with Han. I got sine really worse pairings. Two times against triple BH, I lost a game against triple bounty hunter which is the natural enemy of every falcon list. I got only 2 Phantom matchups what was sad, because Han eats them. But I'm happy with my regionals results, I could win 2 of 5. (Place 2,1,1,3,3).

A single elimination is in my opinion the only option when there are more than 32 player.

Personally, I think a cut to top 4 is sufficient. Top 8 really drags the event too long with 75 minutes round and by the time we reach the finals, players are exhausted and probably not at their best.

Week 12 is just around the corner! We have 7 Regionals this weekend:

Week 12 (7 upcoming)
July 19: Mexico, D.F., Mexico. El Duende - Hobbie Games
July 19: Broomfield, CO, United States. Total Escape Games
July 19: Plano, TX, United States. Madness Games and Comics
July 19: Spokane, WA, United States. Uncle's Games
July 19: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Spartan Games Arena
July 20: Hobart, TAS, Australia. Area 52
July 20: Bucharest, Romania. War Games Store

I just emailed all of them except for El Duende, I couldn't find their email / website wasn't responding. If anyone is going or speaks Spanish and would like to post on their Facebook page to ask for results, the event is posted here:

Consolidated Wave 4 Results now on first page!
I recently added spoiler tags to the results for each country, to make it easier to navigate. Unfortunately this has the side effect of not making it possible to string search for "wave 4". Since wave 4 is such a hot topic, I copied the text results for all Wave 4 Tournaments, sorted by date, and put them under their own spoiler heading here on the first page. Here is the summary:

Top 8 (as opposed to top 4) is needed in events in the 40+ player range to make SoS less painful when you factor in people dropping etc. FFG has a chart with attendance + number of rounds + cut for a reason. Would be nice to see more events actually adhere to it. Many events just run 60 min rounds if they are more concerned about venue limitations or w/e. While maybe not ideal either, it is actually covered in the rules of the event whereas deciding not to do a cut is not.

Top 4 for is good for the 20-30 ish player range, and i'm pretty sure that is what is on the mystery chart. Next year ffg really needs to make those public knowledge. I actually have one that was found, but it's technically for netrunner. Pretty sure all the games have the same numbers on them though.

I might be missing something somewhere, but exactly where is it stated that you/TO MUST do a cut to Top 4/8?? When I look at the Organized Play guide I find this section on page 3 (I've bolded some parts for clarifications):

Tournament rounds

A Swiss-style tournament runs for a fixed number of rounds based on the number of attendees. For larger tournaments, the TO may either run through a full number of Swiss rounds, or choose to “cut to the top” after a declared number of rounds. This means that after a set number of Swiss rounds, the top-ranked players compete in single-elimination play to determine the overall champion. If the TO intends to cut to elimination play at the end of the tournament, he must announce this decision before the tournament starts.

It is important to note that you can always hold more than the minimum number of rounds before a cut. The more rounds you run, the more accurate your final standings.

Example: In a tournament of 24 players, the TO will either run five full Swiss rounds, or cut to the top players after a set number of rounds of play. To ensure the event duration is manageable, he opts to run three Swiss rounds, then cut to a single elimination bracket for the top four players.

The table is found on the same page and I can only see that it specifically states that as long as you run the minimum # of Swiss Rounds there is no (formal) need for Top 4/8

Thx for the clarification guys

I'm sooooooo tired of seeing most imperial lists running mini swarms. So **** boring and uncreative IMO..

I don't care how effective they are.. Just not my thing.
