2014 Regionals results

By MajorJuggler, in X-Wing

I've seen a couple tourneys now with no final cut. Are final cuts supposed to be optional (from a technical/rules standpoint)? I realize tourneys have to do what they have to do for time/practicality reasons, etc.., but I'm just curious.

It's sort of disappointing when they don't happen -- at least from an analysis of the meta -- since it means that top lists with top players aren't getting as much of a chance to duke it out against each other.

The TO guide for the Regional Championships does have a breakdown of what is supposed to happen depending on the number of players attending, and specifically states they would like the events to be run that way so that things are managed in as consistent a way as possible. So I would say stores that want to be looked upon in the most favorable light by FFG would probably be smart to adhere to what they guide towards as much as possible. How much all that matters in the long run I don't know, but my core philosophy as TO was to give the players the best experience possible and to give FFG nothing but reasons to look favorably on the hosting game store.

Hi Major Juggler. I'm the Runner-up for the Singapore Regionals.

My exact list was:-

Chewie w/ Pred + Luke + C3PO + Engine + MF Title (60)

Tala Sqd Pilot x 3 (39)

Total: 99 points

Thanks! My first guess was correct then. :)

Ok, I've got all missing data from Bydgoszcz, Poland

1st- little mistake, Howlrunner had Hull Upgrade instead it Stealth Device

Top4- Wes+ VI, Luke+opportunist+r2d2, wedge+opportunist+ r2

Top8- Alpha Pilot +stealth, scimitar+ homing missile, scimitar+ howling missile+seismic charges, Jenson+ST-321+Weapons Engineer+Anti Pursuit Laser

Top8- 2x Rookie, Han Solo + Gunner+MF title+Recon specialist+ PTL

Sorry for that holes, I was typing all od that from memory yesterday. Thank's for your great work Major! :)

That all looks good, that wraps up the results for the Bydgoszcz Regional, thanks!

Hi Guys,

I practically went downhill after my first game of swiss at the Singapore Regionals, but I stayed all the way to the end.

We played 6 rounds of swiss, with a total of 35 players.

The guys will eventually post the full lists (I think), but the finals came down to two players using a Chewbacca with Z-95 Swarm.

Based on memory:

Winner:

Chewbacca with VI, Gunner, C-3PO, MF

Bandits x 4

Runner up:

Chewbacca with Engine Upgrade, Gunner, C-3PO, Predator

Tala x 3

This is only from what I remembered (it was a 1am game).

A phantom/interceptor/shuttle list made it to the Top 4, but I'll let Duraham spoil that for you. A Firespray with HLC, Howlrunner with 3 Academies also ranked in the top 4.

Consensus is that some people prepared too much for wave 4 (e.g Phantom and Defender Defence), and became very weak against pre-wave 4 builds.

Thanks. We're all certainly looking forward to getting the correct lists. The #2 there is only 96 points, so it's probably missing some upgrades. Luke + MF, or Chewie --> Lando + MF? Don't know, guess we'll find out.

Runner up had Luke Crew.

I'm fairly surprised he's the runner up - I played against it in 3rd round Swiss, and his manuevers are very solid.

I was bottom of top 8:

5 AP

Echo + VI + ACD + FCS + Rebel Captive

Another guy had:

2x Dagger + Adv Sens

Biggs

Gold + R3-A2

Thanks for the update. So it sounds like it was 6 rounds of swiss, then a cut to the Top 8. I assume you meant to say that the biggs/dagger/gold squad there was in the Top 8? Also, it would have been 2 Blues, not 2 Daggers.

3) Can anyone inquire about the Frankfurt Germany results?

Hi Major,

i got a few more results about Frankfurt Regional

Top 16: Roark Garnett + Ioncanon, 2x A-Wing Prototype Pilot, 2x X-Wing

- Biggs + R5-P9, Garven Dreis, Tarn Mison, Red-Squadron

Thanks for the updates. I added all of these squads to the first page post. some quick questions:

  1. I assume that wave 4 was NOT legal for this Regional?
  2. I assume that the ones on the bottom are all unknown rank?

The top 16 I can't technically count towards the statistics unless I know if they are in the Top third or not, which would be #10 or higher. A full report would be nice, but thanks again for filling in what you can.

It was 2 Daggers w/ Adv Sensors for sure. I played against that list twice. The Gold had no ICT therefore he could fit those Daggers in the list.

Edit: I double checked the points and it comes up to 99 points for the Daggers, Biggs and Gold list so its within legal limits.

Awesome, thanks. So 2 people brought the same exact squad and finished in Top 4 and Top 8! Weird! Did they happen to play each other during the first elimination round?

If you could track down the squads that made #9, #10, #11 then I would take those too, for statistics tracking, since they were in the Top Third.

And because we're all greedy to know anything we can about wave 4 Regionals. :D

Interesting to note in the Singapore Regionals: Chewie + Gunner > Whisper

Stats updates coming soon for wave 4....

Yes, the clones matched off against each other.

Malaysian Regionals are the 19th at Spartan Games Arena.

When is the Regionals ending?

13th week, July 26. The full listing is at the end of the 2nd post.

Last minute info, we will have one more regional event in Poland. It turns out, that one more city have Regional kit, but for sone reason there were missed on official FFG list. It will be hosted in Toruń, Poland at 26th of July in a place called "Grajfer". Wave

4 definitely legal, no Facebook site yet, but I'm in contact with a TO, nad hopefully I'll have an opportunity to attend so I'll post the reaults after the event.

And because we're all greedy to know anything we can about wave 4 Regionals. :D

Interesting to note in the Singapore Regionals: Chewie + Gunner > Whisper

Stats updates coming soon for wave 4....

Correct, both lists were 1st seed and last seed respectively after the 6 swiss rounds and faced off each other in the quarterfinals.

#9: Whisper + VI + ACD + FCS, 5x AP

#10: Echo + VI + Recon Spec + ACD, OMG + 2x Tactician, Bounty Hunter + Tactician + Seismic

#11: Kath Scarlet + PTL + Recon Spec + Engines, 4x Obsidian Squad

Hmm interesting Whisper over Echo, and Predator seems to have made an immediate impact under the EPT categoryand with Phantoms VI seems to have taken a slight jump as well giving us roughly 4 major EPTs, PTL, EH, VI and Pred

It's not that surprising. Whisper is better able to combat Chewie, who seems to be the Falcon people lean toward.

It's also just two tourneys so far, so not sure how much can be gleaned just yet.

But it's not just that Whisper can counter Chewie (so can Echo, at least as far as it matters). Whisper can better match up or best more pilots in PS, which is a big deal for the phantom.

How does Whisper counter Chewie?

How does Whisper counter Chewie?

There's been a lot of discussion that because the Phantom has higher mobility than the falcon and they mathermatically take eachother out at the same time that the Phantom counters the falcon. This completely ignores the fact the Phantom has to have a shot to recloak, something the falcon is particularly good at avoiding while still having a shot thanks to the 360 degree firing arc and the fact the Phantom practically cannot K-Turn against a falcon.

The Phantom forces good flying from the Falcon in a way no other individual ship has.

How does Whisper counter Chewie?

The original phrase was "better able to combat" Chewie and it was based off someone reasoning why Whisper was seeing more play than a Echo. That was the context for my response. However, I think it was MJ pointed out that Phantoms, mathematically of course, really aren't as bad as people think facing off against a YT, iirc, of lower PS. That allows them to shoot and recloak before taking return fire, assuming, as Aminar points out, they have a shot.

Supposedly because anything with higher agility than someone has attack dice can counter them.

You can shoot every single turn with a phantom against a falcon with lower PS. Play the whisper by yourself if you need to try it out. You have to screw out big time for that to happen (1arrow 90º are key for this).

Whisper over echo is because of better PS, the straight line barrel roll being better most of the time fhe kind of dance you want to do with the phantom, and more importantly, and after shooting you get a concentration token, so you can spend yours freely for increased damage if something can shoot you back (ie, falcon).

Whisper with fire control system, and advanced cloaking device is a power house when it comes to free actions. Recon crew would make him even better, but too many points in my opinion.
