I just got into X-Wing about two weeks ago. I was looking online for other DIY projects for making X-Wing maps as my budget was blown for ships.

Then I remembered I had some interlocking foam floor mats that I wasn't using that I got from Target a few years back.

One side was too slippery, but the other side seemed decent. I did some cutting up of the other mats and made an X-Wing playing surface. Alas I measured wrong and it came out to 37" x 37".

I tried it out last Friday at a local game store. My friend liked it as the surface cut down on the slipping of ships and markers. The mats are very light but weighty enough not to move on the table.

After that, I decided to try out painting on a waste piece to see how paint would take to it. I was pleased that the foam absorbed the paint and still kept the surface as it is.

Here is the work-in-progress. Not a professional job, but it will do for now.

Not bad, but those interlocking areas will be a nightmare for maneuvering.

So far so good. Make sure you keep it flat or the locking tabs will be an issue with maneuvering.

Surprisingly the interlocking didn't interfere with maneuvering when playing the other day.

Continuing painting. Progress is going slow as I discover my old paints need water or throwing out as I go through them.

I couldn't resist. Had to do a photo shoot.

Awesome maps Uber. It was fun playing on them when they weren't painted. The surface is great, the ships stay put, the interlocking areas weren't an issue, and the dice rolled really good on them, without over-rolling onto the floor. Now that you have painted them, it looks really cool.

Played two games on Friday night with the map. Here is a pic from the second game.

The rebels were Wedge and Dutch. Look just got blown up a turn or two before.

After Wedge did his move. I think a Tie is dying this turn. Maybe two.

This just makes me want to play, this game is awesome, great pictures.
