Episode VII Cast

By FootNote, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I notice the one story said May 4th for the big announcement on title and story synopsis. That'll be fun. They've done a pretty tremendous job developing the Marvel hero thing, if Disney can do this correctly it will be the decade of Star Wars.

I thought this stuff was coming later, like Comic Con SD or something, but I might be wrong of course.

Oh, the actress being cast isn't something I'm sceptical about, but her playing Ventress is.

Not that I disagree, but what are your reasons? (Just wondering. I haven't quite finished Season VI of The Clone Wars , so I don't know if anything as happened to Ventress that would prevent her from being in the movies. I mean, other than it being 30 to 50 years later.)

Sceptical might be a bad choice of word, better to say "I hope not". As you point out it's somewhere around 50 odd years later, so she's going to be old - of course we don't know much about the life span of Dathomiri, so of course, I may be wrong.

Oh, the actress being cast isn't something I'm sceptical about, but her playing Ventress is.

Agree, but I do hope. I really like her character arc in TCW, and was hoping she'd get fleshed out somewhere, sometime. Of course, it seems unlikely given that she'd be a very old woman in the E7 timeframe.

Well, yeah, I don't hope even. I like the character, but I'd rather she appeared in Rebels at some time, helping them out or whatever, being a villain for a small to medium story arc, but to appear on the big screen, by an actress, it's going to be really weird, so I hope not, and I'm sceptical - the scepticism being based on the assumption that Dathomiri have similar lifespan to humans, which would make her quite old. I think she would be in her mid twenties during TCW at least, if not early thirties, then add 20 years until ANH, another 4-5 years of rebellion then another 30 years to Ep VII (if that is not only a rumour too), that would make her approximate 55 odd years older, which would make her somewhere between 70 and 80 years old. Given the assumption (flawed or not) that Dathomiri have similar lifespan to humans, that would be an odd character to include... at least that's how I see it.

How long do Dathomir Witches live?

If you feed and water 'em regular, 400 standard years seems possible (according to the Wookieepedia ):

"Matriarchs aged a century or more were not uncommon, and in exceptional circumstances (as with Rell) they could be to close to 300 local years old (four centuries standard)."

400 years, heck, Asaj would still be in her hotness years even in the new movies....

Yeah I with Jegergryte, given that Ventress never appeared during the OT period, I'd be hard pressed to find a reason to bring her back for the new trilogy. Now if they were doing a one off movie set during the OT period I could dig it.

If Daisy Ridley is Jaina Solo, I will be as happy a clam.

And once again, Star Wars is a male dominated galaxy.

Become a Director and make an all female sci-fi series called "Amazons In Space". In the meantime, stop looking for something to get your jimmies rustled and cry me a river.

And once again, Star Wars is a male dominated galaxy.

And white.

I think this is supposed to be the main cast, i.e. not background actors, but people that the story will focus on to some degree. So...yeah, buncha white dudes, even if a couple of em might be droids or aliens in the end.

"buncha white dudes"? Your political incorrection is highly offensive to me, you racist Nazi bigot. Furthermore, it seems John Boyega has been cast as the lead so not only are you a total hypocrite, you're also stupid.

Part of me wanted to argue this, saying that half the "whites" are going to have a costume or make up on and the two young actors are not white, which I suspect will be the two main actors. Then I realized no matter how I argue it, its just going to sound bad.

That's because oversensitive liberals go out of their way to find reasons to be offended and hurt so they can sit and feel sorry for themselves. Victim mentality.

Oscar Isaac is of latin decent.

John Boyega is black.

That is 1/3rd of the newly announced actors. Stop looking for **** that isn't there.

Thank you.

Wait . . . Max von Sydow?!?

AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! THIS MOVIE IS ALREADY F***ING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

This. Also, Andy Serkis.

Hmmm, where is the Unlike button? Meanwhile, I'll go make popcorn.

I'm beginning to wonder why FFG don't make that option available. It isn't bad enough to report but it still makes me not want to return to the topic.

I did try to lighten the mood.

Does being a Star Wars fan mean getting into heated debate about future uncertainties?

If so, I guess I'm too excited and happy to be a true fan. Most of the topics I've visited have been civil, but of those that make me stressed most are Star Wars.

I'm going to the Dark Heresy 2nd Ed forum to relax now.

Or DID she...?

Ha! Well there might be a re-re-remastered Lucas edition at Skywalker ranch where she did.

Agreed, Daisy Ridley as Jania would be cool. I'd still love to see Mara Jade in some form even if she doesn't follow the Zahn format.

Totally. I don't care about them following all the stories (much as I love everything Zahn wrote), but some of those big name characters in the old EU would be really cool to be re-introduced in the film.

I also really appreciate the chill responses to the rather inflammatory post #81. Surely we can continue to discuss perceptions and expectations in light of the fact that we're all here because we love Star Wars.

There was an interview with Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in guardians of the galaxy, where she says that when she shaved her lovely red locks, that they were donatet ti lucasfilm, who made a wig of it. Now, it could be for Mara, another character or even a wookie. Speculate as you will.

My post was no more inflammatory than the ones I responded to, people being hypocritically biased based on sex and race.

Anyway, I'm most excited about Andy Serkis; in my opinion he's possibly the most underrated actor ever. I also assume he'll be playing an alien.

Nobody called you a Nazi bigot. Nobody called you stupid. Nobody asked you to not get your jimmies rustled and to go cry a river. Even if we did call you these things, do you believe that it would justify in your doing so in return? Try the golden rule out. Anger leads to hate, bro.

Folks would it be possible for one side or the other to just walk away from the race discussion and return it to a Star Wars new movie discussion? Pretty please....

There's a difference between people making sardonic and derogatory comments directed at no-one-in-particular and people directly calling other people stupid, hypocrites, Nazis, bigots, and racists. And making a statement presuming that one is looking to get one's jimmies rustled. These are the things that are full-blown inflammatory.

The others were merely in a range between humorously sardonic and distasteful. Take it as you will.

And anyways, even responding inflammatorily (whether or not someone else started it) is a breach of the Guide to Forum Use.

I agree.

If the word is true (that a new Sith Lord isn't the big bad), what do you guys think will be a good candidate for the antagonist(s)?

I'm not sure how anyone was being hypercritically biased by pointing out the lack of diversity in the movie casting. This is especially true of the announced female parts, even as a white male I find it disappointing that the cartoons can do a better job of providing strong female roles than the movies seem to be able to do. I love Star Wars, and maybe there is more casting to be revealed, but honestly, this cast does seem a lot like a sausage fest and my noticing that doesn't make me a hypocrite.

Jaxxon will return as a redhead...on film... as solidified canon... Boom.

Someone NEW. Not someone dredged up or a clone of another character. I hope for a new and original villain who kicks butt.

Maybe like these aliens from another galaxy, who can't be touched by the Force and also have genetically engineered biotech and hate droids.

should write that idea to Disney, maybe they will use it.

I'd love the Mandalorians to be the antagonists, but I'm a Mandalorian fan so I'm biased. I'd also be excited if it were the Chiss. Thrawn would be great, but even just the Chiss as a xenophobic force trying to assert "order" on the galaxy could be cool. I really hope it is not the Yuuzhan Vong, I could never get into them.

Yeah, I'm done with the argument. We all know these people whining about a "lack of diversity" wouldn't be doing so if there was any plurality of people cast but white men. Liberals.

I'm betting they'll figure out a way to keep the more well liked characters like Thrawn around in some fashion (even if it means Zahn writing a whole nother trilogy after the films are released to sort it out).

Mandos in big role, I'm not getting my hopes up simply because it's the sort of thing a director would look at and say "eh, that's too much like the Clones... lets go with CG Manbearpigs instead."

Yeah not holding my breath on Mandos even being in the new movies, but a boy can dream.
