The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer

Not too excited about the original cast returning. Not really interested in seeing an old grumpy Harrison Ford flying around in the Falcon... or an old Carrie Fisher doing... whatever it is they'll have her doing. I really hope they prove me wrong though. If they have minor roles and the film focuses on new characters than I'll be happy. I'll just have to wait and see.

I'm a little concerned about the original cast returning. It could very well be a neat passing of the torch, though, so it will probably all work out.

But if Han's still wearing that goddamn vest forty years later, I'm gonna have words with someone...

If Andy Serkis is the 'comic relief' for the movie, then that is quite all right by me.

So maybe Luke just says "Hey new guys take these droids and go on adventures and don't come back telling us lies about some biotech goblins creatures like last time!!!!" While Han sits in the back of his chair wearing his old costume because of a late life crisis watching reruns of documentaries on the rebellion.

The original cast is vital to the Epic! Just as many of the heroes from 1-3 appear as mentors or supporting roles in 4-6; the same will be true for 7-9. Luke will be the Obi-wan/Yoda character and be at the center of rebuilding the Jedi Order. Han will be the wise General and Lei might end up being a parental figure in these movies. The action will center around the new heroes. Just as Obi-wan was "getting too old for this sort of thing", so will Luke and Han. But the story would feel incomplete without them.

According to entertainment media, apparently Harrison Ford's role will take up a significant portion of the movie so we'll at least be seeing alot more of Han than the rest of the old crew.

You mean the jerk who spoiled to the world that Vader's was Luke's father before Episode V even came out. They won't even let him attend the Star Wars Celebrations anymore. I do not want to see his face anywhere near Star Wars.

As has been pointed out on a few other feeds I've been reading, it's a bit... weird... that there's only one female character (again!) out of the seven new roles announced. Does the success of Star Trek, Battlestar, Firefly, etc., mean nothing? Or are JJA and Kasdan really unable to write strong female characters (or at least ones that aren't swooning over the protagonist?)
