New Escalation Rules

By Haggis McHaggis, in X-Wing

I have been fiddling with this. I'm a bit of a noob with list builds so advice is helpful

YT-1300 (46), Gunner (5), Millennium Falcon (1)\

Round 2

Han Solo (52)

YT-1300 (46), Gunner (5), Millennium Falcon (1)\

\

Wedge Antilles (36)\

X-Wing (29), R5-P9 ((3), Opportunist (4)

Round 3

Han Solo (52)

YT-1300 (46), Gunner (5), Millennium Falcon (1)\

\

Wedge Antilles (36)\

X-Wing (29), R5-P9 (3), Opportunist (4)

Wes Janson (34)\

X-Wing (29), Veteran Instincts (1)

Round 4

Han Solo (52)

YT-1300 (46), Gunner (5), Millennium Falcon (1)\

\

Wedge Antilles (36)\

X-Wing (29), R5-P9 (3), Opportunist (4)

Wes Janson (34)\

X-Wing (29), Veteran Instincts (1), shield upgrade (4)

Green Squadron Pilot (26)\

A-Wing (19), Concussion Missiles (4), Push the Limit (3)

I have 2 points to spare too.

I am undecided on the Green. I was thinking maybe Garven or a blue with advanced sensors.

A few general points:

In lower point/fewer ship games, defense plays a somewhat larger role than normal. Pilots like Soontir Fel, Dark Curse, and Luke w/R2-D2 do well as the last man standing.

Howlrunner seems expensive for the value you get out of her in a 60 point setting.

In general, I am not as big a fan of the new Escalation rules as I was the ones they used at 2013 Worlds where you only had to carry a certain number of points forward. I am disappointed with that change - for me it takes a lot of the creative fun out of planning for it. But might just be my opinion - it still seems like a fun format and something different for dogfight fans to do instead of the normal 100 point format. We're doing one locally on May the Fourth (using the old rules as we had set it all up prior to the new format) and lots of local players have been wanting to try it out for a while now.

I'd think about going this way with it (if you keep the Green):

60 (54)

Solo, EH, Gunner, Nien Numb

90 (90)

Solo, EH, Gunner, Nien Numb

Wedge, PTL, R2-D2

120 (120)

Solo, EH, Gunner, Nien Numb

Wedge, PTL, R2-D2

Wes, VI

150 (150)

Solo, EH, Gunner, Nien Numb

Wedge, PTL, R2-D2

Wes, VI, Hull

Green Sqn, PTL, Assault Missiles

Not bad. Thanks

I do like a barrel roll on the falcon.

I was also thinking about a Kyle Katarn and Garven combo instead of a falcon

Hmm OK here's a couple HSF list ideas

Han Solo, Marksman, Gunner, Chewbacca (58)

58/60

Han Solo+Marksman+Gunner+Chewbacca (58)

Blue Squadron Pilot+HLC (29)

87/90

Han Solo+Marksman+Gunner+Chewbacca (58)

Blue Squadron Pilot+HLC (29)

Blue Squadron Pilot+HLC (29)

116/120

Han Solo+Marksman+Gunner+Chewbacca+Assault Missiles (63)

Blue Squadron Pilot+HLC (29)

Blue Squadron Pilot+HLC (29)

Blue Squadron Pilot+HLC (29)

150/150

or

Han Solo+Marksman+Gunner+Chewbacca (58)

Blue Squadron Pilot+HLC (29)

Blue Squadron Pilot+HLC (29)

Outer Rim Smuggler+Luke Skywalker (34)

150/150

Well I went with this list in the tourney, only change was last round I went with Gunner and Merc CoPilot instead of Luke on the ORS. Didn't make much difference, the ORS copped a bunch of shots from a swarm then a APT from Maj Rhymer before it got to return fire.

For the rounds I won 1st, 2nd, and the final and came in 2nd place. Was super worried about the 1st round but Han is such a reliable beat stick handing out 1 or 2 crits every time he fires. My Blues dished out enough damage as well that they couldn't be ignored so Han was always the last ship kicking around at the end. My loss in the 3rd round was vs a squad of 3 Blues with FCS + HLCs, plus Biggs. They chewed up my B-Wings no problems thanks to Focus + the free target locks. Han did return the favour so there was only 2 HP left on the last B-wing when Han went boom.
