I'm New!

By JDK6069, in UFS General Discussion

Hello, as the title reads, I am new to the UFS CCG. I played it when it first came out and it was only 2-3 games, since then I haven't play it at all. I am interested in getting back in and would like some advice. I like playing control type decks that have nifty ways of winning, so I would like a deck which controls the flow of the game and can "negate" when it needs to. My favorite characters of the different factions are Akuma, Guile, and Bison. I was wondering if any of those are controlish?

I was also wondering what sets are good for the controlling aspects, I am just planning on playing for fun so old sets are fine by me. I was about to buy a Akuma starter deck but I don't want to be to hasty on it. What are some staple cards that can go into the decks and what not?

Thanks for the help and I hope to learn quickly gui%C3%B1o.gif .

Akuma is a big control character or he can even be aggro very good . If you want too build him control off of evil set 8 will have a lot of the tools you will need.

Sorry I am a little slow on the set numbers. What is the name of set 8?

SNK: Cutting Edge and Street Fighter: Domination.

Mai's starter deck has some good Evil tools as well.

And welcome back!

Thanks! I hope to stay back if money permits gran_risa.gif .

Alright, I think I'm going to buy 2 Akuma starters, and a box of Domination. You think I could build a decent deck out of that?

Probably. Getting some of the SNK boosters, and/or any of the latest Soulcalibur IV set wouldn't hurt either.

But Starter Akuma from Domination is widely regarded to be one of the best characters in the game (certainly one of the best starter characters), so you'll be ready to start hacking your opponent's control checks as soon as you open the box. (: (Curse you! *shakes fist at CC Hax*)

I was looking around and I was wondering, my friend loves anything beats, which starter from that set will be best for beats? I was gonna get him a starter or 2 for his b'day coming up. Thanks!

Astrid, or Ragnar from Shadowar or IVy from Soul Calibur - for a starter... much beats are to be had.

I got a quick question, is the Akuma vs. Ryu battle deck any good?

It's got a bunch of really great, really fun cards. If you're just playing around, and you're not going for current tournament play, then by all means pick them up for a grand old time.

Sorry again! Got another question gui%C3%B1o.gif . Is there a deck that focuses on not attacking and just exhausting the oppents deck? If so, what character is it and from which set? Thanks!

There is no start that focuses on that. There are some cards in other people's starters that can help it along (yoshimitsu? yoshitora? Penny Arcade for Tycho's Erode the Human Soul? :) ). But no, no starter deck focuses entirely on exhuasting. Or event periferally...

Characters to look for that mess with Exhuast: Zhao Daiyu from Shadowar, Zengeif from SF Domination or the original SF set. Voldo from Soul Calibur um... Flash of Blades? idk...

here use this to help you look for cards: http://www.twoheadeddragon.com/ufs/index.html

Unfortunately there were not any really serious beats in the domination or cutting edge sets... maybe Ken? ...

But Ragnar, Astrid and Ivy from newer sets are good places to start. Though someone locally is running Seigfreid beats...

and on that Ryu v. Akuma battle pack. That battle pack is the most complicated and nuance filled BP the game has seen, or rather, games of Ryu v. Akuma in that starter BP take FOREVER! :P (or they can...)

Thanks! I bought the battle pack in order to get fimiliar with the game again. I am also going to use it to judge to see which style of play I will like, such as exhausting method, manipulation, beats, or defense. Thanks again for the help!

I'm personally a fan of mill. So far the best characters that I've run actual mill decks off of have been:

.Gaira. <This was a really old deck that used the cards Wandering Monk to set up, Order and Law to mill, and Replenishment to stay alive>
^^^ Booster Character from the first SNK set

::Voldo:: <This was somewhat complicated deck that was brought to fame by Omar Chavez who used it to win the US National Championships last year>
^^^ Booster Character from Higher Calibur (SC05)

:Bishamon: <Possibly my most favourite character art in the game. This character has a lot of potential, but I haven't seen anyone bust him wide open.>
^^^ Dark Stalkers Promo card. Currently available from certain Legacy tournaments, or the seconary market.

::Dhalsim:: <Master of the All Your Base loop. Which you can read about HERE .>
^^^ Street Fighter Promo Card. Currently available from certain Legacy tournaments, or the seconary market.

Last question (I hope). If later on I want to get competitive, what are the different blocks and whish sets include them?

Currently we're in block 3: this is anything with a 4 point shuriken on the card and up. This includes the sets:
Domination
Deadly Ground
Warrior's Dream
Flash of Blades
Cutting Edge
King of Fighters
Flames of Same

and also includes:
ShadoWar
Soul Calibur 4

ShadoWar and Soul Calibur 4 will also be legal the next rotation, as they have 5 point shurikens on the card.

Block 2 was 3 point shurikens, and cards with no shuriken were the legacy setting, although legacy includes every card that is unbanned, not just particular sets.

How often are rotations?

Sets stay in "Standard" rotation for a period of roughly 2 years. Every spring the sets that are roughly 2 years old rotate out.

You can always play your cards that have rotated out in the Legacy format which is quite popular in a number of areas.

And of course in many many casual games people often look the other way when fighting against cards that are no longer standard block legal.

To add to Eithinis' list, Realm of Midnight is legal, although very hard to find since it went out of print a couple months ago. If you find some I recommend you pick it up, it has some pretty nice cards in it.

Oh wow, how did I miss Realm of Midnight when i was listing that o.O I'll edit that in.

Edit: Or it could not let me edit it. Odd. but i can edit this post o.O
