Making new ICE

By Facilier, in Android: Netrunner The Card Game

So there was this breakdown of recent Andromeda tournament-winning decks, and part of the findings was that 100% of them played Corroder.

Yog seems to be similarly ubiquitous, and for sentries you seem to have a choice of Mimic or Garrote.

Morning Star seems to be carving out a space for itself, especially as more people experiment with Paintbrush, but realistically, how much design space is there for actually creating new icebreakers? Are we going to see a concerted shift towards programs in future sets, or is there a possibility of a move away from the code gate-sentry-barrier trifecta to bring about new icebreakers?

What do you guys see in the game's future?

There is some of that already happening as the new spoilered icebreaker from HnP is a breaker that breaks any tracer subroutines. So now there are breakers that break AP, Destroyers, and tracers in addition to AIs and the standard breakers. We'll have to wait and see to see how effective it's going to be.

But also I think there are a couple of different breaker suites out there (although I agree with you on the prevalency of corroder). Torch has been seeing some play over Gordian (or Yog) and I've seen people play Keymaster here and there. And don't forget Kit loves cyber-cyphers. There is also a lot of different choices for killers besides mimics and garrotes (recurring Faeries, Femmeasourus, and dagger are just a couple I've seen in the last 2 weeks). So besides fracters I think there is a pretty health spread of usable icebreakers.
