I kind of expect a part of the book to be about force mystics and other force users who aren't necessarily Jedi. Dathomir magic and powers as one example.

Likewise, I expect the book to have suggestions for DMs to temper force users. With these new abilities there should be new challenges to throw at force-enabled characters as well.

I love the idea of a Findsmen since the Gand are a playable race already. That, and doing an Antarian Ranger and flavor it like a Mass Effect adept with biotic powers. But that's just me. I do hope that they devote a good chunk of attention to other Force TRaditions as well!

That's a valid point with the recent shake-up and most of the EU being moved over to the "Legends" category.

Plus (as much as I think it's a load of nonsense), there have been complaints that the names used for careers and specializations to date have been "too specific" and generally enforcing a certain character type, such as Bounty Hunters having actually hunt bounties, or Hired Guns having to be generally amoral mercenaries. While I'd like to see specializations that tie directly to certain Force traditions, I think FFG will probably want to include some "generalist' specializations for those Force-users that aren't part of a previously-established tradition like the Fallanasi or the Findsman or the Dathomir Witches. In fact, the list of generic titles that Locrious provided is pretty good, and the flavor text for each specialization could include an example or two of a Force tradition that would be covered by that spec.

There's also the idea that Force & Destiny won't be the "all Force-user RPG" that some might think it should be, and that at least one or two of the new careers will be for the muggles, and how they're going to deal with the (almost) inevitable Jedi career; is it going to be a single career with the fairly well-established Consular/Guardian/Sentinel split for specs, or are they going to go crazy and have three separate careers, or go for some middle ground between the two extremes?

The new kids cartoon 'Rebels' has a Jedi who has been in hiding and a force sensitive young kid. I'm going to be interested in seeing how they make that show 'canon' while still maintaining that Luke was the 'Only Hope'.

I sincerely hope that however they do careers and specializations, that they keep Force Specializations Universal. I have a Force Sensitive character who's going for the whole Exile -> Emergent -> "Whatever, but hopefully some Jedi specialization as it is revealed his father was a Jedi". If whatever path options there are, are not Universal, I'll pour a lot of xp into just opening those trees. Then again, maybe that's a fair balancing point.

One thing I would hate is to have it be "all Force-users" by default. It should be an option, but it should also expand on the non-Force user options out there. Diversity is important. I may be wrong in this assumption, but most groups seems to only have a limited number of Force-users in their play groups at any time. It has to do with a lot of things: Play styles, favorite aspects of the universe, and story.

The latter is important. Not only does it gives some uniqueness to each character beyond just stats, but it also gives each player and his character their moment in time to shine. This works best if one can take turns shining, and if you can shine where you seem unlikely to. Politicos and Smugglers should still have a lot to offer during times of war (AoR), but they should also get new options for FaD. In addition, whatever options becomes available to Force-users shouldn't outshine the potential non-Force users has.

Bluntly put: If I'm in the story as the only Force user, I'd like to keep that niche. Similarly, if I'm a hotshot pilot, I want to become a better hotshot pilot while that Force-guy does his thing. I'll be blasting his ass out of somewhere soon enough, and he'll thank me. But if the setting or worse yet, rules, sort of forces (haha) everyone to become Force users in order to continue their story, some game designer clearly didn't do his job.

Remember, it's Force AND Destiny. The Destiny part is valid for anyone - be they Han, Chewie, Lando, Leia, Luke, C-3PO, R2-D2 or Wedge, for that matter.

To my understanding, and assumption, FaD will be about the even bigger events than AoR. When soldiers become heroes and generals, when diplomats become rulers and when Force-users discovers their true potential. You've overcome your difficulties in life, fought for the Rebellion, and now it's time to undertake the last stretch against the Empire. (Yes, I do believe we will find a tentative timeline prior to RotJ, as that would fit the product line as presented.). The trick is to get this to work with characters both old and new, though seeing as they're not doing the same as in the 40k-line (where Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader and Deathwatch incremently had more powerful characters to start with), but instead use supporting mechanics and setting premise to "give" more to the characters (or less in the case of Obligation), I believe the same will be done here.

That being said, I would be all for rebuilding the Republic and Jedi Order, or even chasing down artifacts. But it doesn't seem likely that will be the initial main focus with the whole new films and canon coming up. I'm fairly certain that FaD will try its best to build up to these sort of things, though, as it would fit the larger-than-life Destiny theme I suppose is on its way.

As for the whole Jedi extinction thing... I guess it comes down to how literally you should take all statements in the films. Since there are proof that the characters in the films (Vader, Obi-Wan and Yoda, mostly) don't really seem to have a complete grasp of what's happening around them (the twins, Leia standing in front of Vader, etc), I'd say that leaves a lot of benefit to the doubt. The Jedi Order is without a doubt extinct. Most likely, the Order is what Obi-Wan and Yoda are talking about. With such a vast galaxy, as well as many (at least a few with new canon) traditions AND anti-Imperials with varying amounts of resources, it is highly unlikely all Force Users or even all former Jedi have been eradicated. Jedi simply ceased being Jedi and Force users went into hiding. I don't really think it's a stretch to assume, even within the context of the films. But no, I don't think the game will be about only Jedi or Force users running around.

The only reason Ben and Yoda avoided notice was to hide who they are. Yoda had to go to a planet with a high amount of Dark Side interference so he would not be noticed. If at any point in the years between order 66 and the Battle of Endor Ben and Yoda had taken out their lightsaber and gone all Jedi hero on some Imperials, then he would have been dealing with The Emperor and Darth.

I guess that no mater when the official timeline for the adventures set in Force and Destiny, I'll just move my campaign to after the Battle of Endor. I want my players to be the new heroes of the Jedi and not some guys hiding while waiting for 'The Only Hope' to save the day.

I don't think it's impossible to do this during the Civil War or Dark Times. I mean, you have to watch out for Inquisitors (or more likely, the one that is handling your case) but it doesn't have to be more threatening than the rest of the stuff in your average adventure,

I guess it took me a while to realize this, but being a force sensitive during the Galactic Civil War would have been a little easier post-Yavin. Why? Because Vader, the Emperor, and the Inquisition are spending a proportionally greater amount of resources looking for a specific Force Sensitive, Luke.

This does mean that there's probably a greater likelihood of response to sightings of Jedi, but it also means that the Inquisition is likely being stretched thin and won't be able to respond properly to legitimate reports, or might jump the gun on false positives.

Regardless, I think we can look forward to Fantasy Flight finding a way to explain being a Jedi during this tumultuous time.

I don't think you can "be a Jedi" or "every bit as capable as a the Jedi of old" without proper training. I think that it was set Luke apart.

Anyway, I personally don't need Jedi as such, but since we already have two "self-taught" variants of force users between Edge and Age, we don't really need more. Granted, each game is supposed to stand alone, so maybe they'll include one self-taught option in addition to other, formal force-using traditions.
