The next BIG announcement

By SheepDog, in X-Wing

We'll see preliminary models for two Imperial huge ships at GenCon, with the official announcement shortly thereafter. They'll be slated for Q4 2014. There will be a Vigil-class Star Destroyer (3 epic points) and an IPV-1 System Patrol Craft (2 epic points).

A month later, we'll get an official announcement on Wave 5, slated for Q1 2015. It'll have the YT-2400, IG-2000, StarViper and R-41 Starchaser.

So sayeth Soothsayer Danthrax.

I'd prefer the Nebulon-B Frigate at 5 and the Mesens Corporation SCT Scout Craft at 1. Although that is just me furiously wishlisting.

That's the thing about the Corvette (and the Nebulon B) when it comes to Epic scale ships; it only takes an official cards pack to make them usable by EITHER faction...

You guys are all idiots.

Next major ships that will come out:

V-wing

Arc 170

SA-43

Tholian Fighter

Spaceball One

Ugh. While I will always love the X-Wing series of PC games, the System Patrol Craft, to me, remains one of the least inspired and most hideous craft in the SW universe. I sincerely hope they don't produce it.

I would like to see either a Modified Corvette from the X-Wing/TIE Fighter games, or an Imperial Gunship in the Patrol Craft's place.

Also, I hope to see an Assault Gunboat and a Missile Boat

Will it suck, or blow?

I wonder in what kind of movement template ludicrous speed translates...

I do't think we'll be getting Wave 5 Stuff at gencon this year. It's a little too soon.

Way too soon for Wave 5. I'll be surprised if we actually get Wave 4 before July... Gencon is Aug, and I don't think they'll even be ready to announce Wave 5 by then.Wave 2 was announced in Sept '12 and released in Feb '13. Wave 3 was announced in May '13 3 months latter, and released Sept '13. Wave 4 was announced Feb '14 5 months latter. So if trends hold, and with things like Rebel Aces, and Imperial Epic ships. I don't expect to hear anything about Wave 5 until this fall.

Yeah, so much for 2 waves per year... unless they can squeeze 5 into the christmas season..

I would love to see a Warlord class ship, but fear it would give hope to those wanting AT-ATs and snow speeders.. it is a space combat game.. not ground wars..the Vigil would be awesome as well.

I have no idea what other ships they would come upnwith though. I like the ideas of the bounty hunter ship and the YT-2400, and a 2000 would be cool as well..

Fighter craft.. up in the air with Lucasfilms killing EU material... leaves very little except repaints.. not a horrible idea in my book.. but new ships can be cool.

Time will tell... patients will win the day..

I believe card packs for the epic ships are the only way to go but was shot down in another thread because Imperial players would fee slighted having to pay extra money so they could fly a CR90 compared to rebels. I can understand the objection i guess but seems better than having to spend 100 dollars on a second CR90 just for the faction cards.

I'd definitely be interested in buying a reasonably priced card pack for the lambda shuttle and CR90. Seems like a good deal to me rather than having two sku's that use the same model.

I'd love to see more xwing game models like the freighters and maybe cargo containers, an official model for the red civilian shuttle in the starter scenarios, maybe a small defense platform, something like that

Some have said that 2 waves a year is improbable.

I'm not really sold on that. Past waves and logisitics were off, no doubt, and only time will tell but I believe FFG now has a better logisitics op going.

The Transports have come in on time (early in fact). The CR-90 is on the boat (a VERY good sign). When FFG annouced wave 4 it took all of us by surprise. If wave 4 gets on the boat soon we should have them by mid-June.

I don't think its out of the realm of possiblity for wave 5 to be annouced this summer for Q4 2014 / Jan 2015.

The CEO remarked that this is the most successful product they have ever made. Companies with successful products hate leaving money on the table. Having customers scrambling to buy the limited quanities of product has to be frustrating for FFG.

I'm going to imagine that they see a winner and have devoted "an ass load" (technical business term) of resources into fixing the logisitics issues, ramping up production, development, and play testing. I believe the 2 wave a year model is still in play as long as there is a supply of ships/roles for expanded gameplay.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

Am I the only person who doesn't want them pushing out an eff ton of ships every year?

Too much product too quickly, and my wallet can't keep up.

One of THE major reasons i quit playing M:TG competitively.

ewok gliders... (no air in space is just an inconvenience)

There is however also such a thing as product saturation. Put too much out too fast and eventually people stop buying anything.

WizKids has done this a number of times, for example, and seem to be doing it with Attack Wing.

I don't think 2 waves a year is unreasonable or putting out too much stuff. But 2 waves, 2 Aces packs, and 2 Epic ships... That's pushing it. If they do as I think and unveil the Imperial Epic's at Gencon, then there's no way they'll put out Wave 5 this year yet, and IMO they shouldn't.

"Battle of Yavin" or "Aces over the Death Star" with goodies for Y-wing and Tie Advanced.

(Yes I know that there was only one T-A over Yavin, but those are the oldest ships with the smallest number of specific cards. They are also the only wave one ships with only two unique pilots, for example, and certainly the T-A is recognized as being not the most attractive choice,)

If I'm not mistaken, two a year was FFGs expectation.. I know with Aces and huge ships that might have taken the possibility away, but I think 2 a year isn't unreasonable.

I guess I feel, if the company says it plans to do something, I kinda like to see it happen. I've worked manufacturing jobs for a long time.. and when the boss says more.. we did more.. we usually got paid well for doing it too.

It's entirely possible the success of this game threw them for a loop, but they should have an idea of what to do with it by now. I think the release of the huge ships shows this, and I feel the announcements of new things coming earlier than we are used to is also a harbinger of it as well.

No. They both were supposed to be out by the end of March, according to FFG's PowerPoint slides at GenCon 2013. And I believe Game Trader magazine said something about February. So they're late by about two months.

With the Wave 4 preview events happening at the very end of May and beginning of June, I doubt Wave 4 will launch officially in June. Wave 2 launched 2½ months after the Kessel Run preview events. While I don't think it'll be that bad this time, I can see Wave 4 releasing in mid-July.

I hope it's the Vigil class corvette. I really want a dagger shaped imperial ship but the Star Destroyer would look ridiculous next to the other huge ships. There's nothing you can do to make that feel right. It's the best of both worlds, and would be recognizable to even non EU fans: "Oh it's like a small Star Destroyer".

But more likely the small imperial capital ship from the new Rebels series. Which would also be cool. Especially with a Tie Advanced escort.

Maybe we'll get both!

I'm fairly certain it's the partially completed Death Star II.

I'm fairly certain it's the partially completed Death Star II.

Very partially. Not quite up to the battle of Endor level, maybe just a metal support beam

I'm fairly certain it's the partially completed Death Star II.

It could be like a Hoberman Sphere. :P Be the prototype from inside the Kessel Black hole facility...

Is it possible that FFG is working on the production of Wave 5/imperial epic ships already and just hasnt told us about it? Maybe we will get them by the end of the year.

From my observation FFG is really tight when it comes to telling people about upcoming stuff. Of course, I am fairly new, but I have a lot of experience with GW, and the rumor mill for them is absurdly crazy. I know GW tries to keep their schedule tight but there are some fairly reliable sources that could tell you what to expect in a given year with rough time lines. Maybe FFG has their own schedule for wave 5 release this year and just hasnt told anybody about it yet. After all, we are only barely 5 months in, still plenty of time to exploit those "secret plans"
