Posting experience from a con

By bull30548, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi all,

I figured this is the place to ask this as there are many more experienced and knowledgeable people then I. I was planning on doing a short vlog about my first experience gming at a con. I just don't want to get hit for saying something or talking about something out of turn and getting my vlog banned for some reason. I plan on posting it on YouTube and making it private to all accept friends, folks here, and over at that Order 66 podcast I don't even listen to. What I am not planning on including is actual live play as I don't want to need releases or disclosure agreements. I do not plan on referring to the players by name at all just what they did. What I do plan to include is the date, the event, and of course Edge of the Empire. Is this okay? Do I need to worry about this at all?

I actually have the first video ready to post up but I just didn't want to pull that trigger until I had some answers. The first video is the fact that I went to the staff meeting (which I am not even required to do) and went to check out the area we are going to be gaming in on my own.

If this is going to be an issue I am perfectly fine with just doing a post entry here on FFG. So follow up will THAT be a problem?

There's actually numerous videos online of people doing sessions, so you don't need to be so careful/protective.

Honestly, the only thing I could think of getting you in trouble is if you just sat in front of a camera and read through everything in one of the books FFG sells.

Only thing I'd be careful of during recording is to make sure there is any noticeable background music. YouTube automated copyright system has this nasty tendency to lockdown videos that have a positive match to copyright protected audio, no matter the circumstance. This even truer if you’re trying to make ad revenue from the video, in which case you may lose most or all of it.

Anyways have fun with the game! I just had my first gaming experience in a con environment and as a player in EotE Saturday myself. The GM ran a very good game and the crew pulled off the module exceedingly well. It was a very enjoyable time, even if I did get chewed on a bit by the girlfriend for not getting in ‘till past midnight and not waking up until 9! I REGRET NOTHING! :D

So after consideration and well reality I chose not to post video from my experience at the con. Mainly what happen was that there was much fun had post RPG sessions that I did not bother with it. The second problem was that I didn''t have a good quiet place that I could film and post. However, I think that what I saw at the Con I have made suggestions that might actually encourage more filming to go. Finally, since I was a new GM and this was a new system for a lot of the players and even a few new players having never played rpgs I didn't want to stress them out further or put undue pressure on them; by saying, "Oh, hey btw I am going to record this event for posterity later."

I do feel comfortable saying that I ran both beginner games 2 times over the course of the con with a variety of players both new and old. Every game pretty much had a unique way of accomplishing the scenario. I also explained the system to tons of people throughout the day. I think I may have helped sell a lot of product for FFG. So where my fee grab bag FFG I will take X-Wing minis as pay lol. J/K but the con was a blast and I hope that perhaps we could grow something out of it to make it a truly epic con.

Which con?

Keep in mind that you can always take the video you captured and then replace the audio from a voice-over later, where you can explain what the viewers are seeing on screen.

That avoids the music copyright issue, reading the entire contents of a book to the camera, etc....

Think of it as doing a news story on your experience at the con, which doesn't have to include any of the audio that had been recorded at the con.

Which con?

Momocon in Atlanta, GA this past weekend.
