bad quality fabricated book

By the 8 spider, in Dark Heresy

from france

i have several problemes with my books of dh be it bi or ff the glues holding the page seem to detach at alarming rate . and i am especially caucious with books. i have worked in library so in know how to handle proprely. they are in place whitout humidity excessive heat or cold. i don't read them while eating or in a bath for example. in fact i'am maniac about books. i bought my creatures anathema one month agoand the glues and two section is completely separeted.

do i am the only one with this probleme? is it exclusive to france or other europeans country. or some series of printing have been F... off? dh is agreat game but the book are expensive and i expected better quality

I've had no problems with my books. They're probably some of the better quality paperbacks I've bought before.

the only problem i have is in the BI IH, theres 3 pages that is dobbel printed on there page and is hard to read. but i did buy it in australia, but live in denmark so no return to the seller:P

the 8 spider: I suggest you return it to those who sold it to you and get a new an hopefully better copy. I do belive you got some garanty time in France also as I would be supriced if there is no EU regulation over such thing.

Sarius: Sounds like some illegal printings of the book.

As far as I'm aware, the FFG versions have these problems sometimes. The same goes for my FF corebook, I've treated it very gently and its letting go a bit around one of the edges.

Return to seller and they should give you a new book.

well theres a pretty long way from denmark to australia.

True. Tried emailing FFG about getting a new copy?

nah i anyway know everything on those pages.

My DH book that i bought from Amazon.co.uk had slightly bent covers, sort of bulging up, and now binding has started coming lose...the book is not in heavy use and I'd expect a hard cover to last far longer than this....

Bit upset as DH Is my absolute favorite RPG and I am forced to only open the book when absolutely needed in fear of it falling apart completely....

I saw DotDG with very weak binding (brand new) in a local games store a few months ago. They had plenty of other copies, but I essentially got it for a touch over half price. cool.gif I treat it gently.

MY book's spine is coming away... I've only had it a month and a half at this stage i think. I have giving the book to loan to a few people for making their characters but they are just as careful as me.

When i got my copy of the creatures anathema, the glue was seperating in some of the pages and same goes for DotDG. I cant help but notice that as soon as FFG took over, the books get thinner and the quality goes down slightly.

I , for one have not seen any problems with my books, and these things have been abused to no end. They have been dropped, spread across laps and crammed into a backpack that is too small for all of them and strains to hold on, yet my books are still holding together. The only in store problem I found was that the cover of my DotDG books was ever so slightly bent. In my opinion, these are some of the highest quality bindings I have ever seen in an RPG book.

If you have had problems, I would reccomend that you e-mail FFG or talk to the owner of the store you got it from. They should replace it or refund your money.

Hi All,

First, all Foreign Language production books are produced by the local language publisher, not by FFG. If you have a problem, please don't hesitate to call/email the local publisher (which in France is Ubik/Bibliotheque Interdite.

Brikosanity -- I do want to remind you that FFG has produced every hardcover book in English for DH, except for the initial printing of the DH core book itself, so I am confused about your statement that our books are thinner.

The only book I had any significant issue with was my original BI corebook; the binding is loose, but holding together fine. Otherwise, my copies of the FFG releases have been great. There was some slight bowing of the cover of CA , but that ultimately corrected itself on the shelf.

And just so you all know, below is what I own from which publisher;

  1. Two copies of the BI printings of the Dark Heresy corebook. One copy of the FFG reprint. Very happy with both versions.
  2. One copy of Purge the Unclean , softcover BI run. My FLGS still has copies of the BI version, and have yet to reorder for the FFG reprint, so I have not yet grabbed an FFG copy.
  3. One copy each of The Inquisitor's Handbook produced by BI and FFG . Both holding together wonderfully.
  4. I have owned a copy of the BI release of the GM's Kit for quite sometime. Recently picked up the FFG release; the improvements surprised me.
  5. Disciples of the Dark Gods and Creatures Anathema continued to impress me. There was some slight bowing of the covers of each, but that was easily resolved by my three copies of the corebook.

Honestly, I am looking forward to the rest of the DH books. So far I have been very pleased with the quality of the FFG releases. As to Brick's comment about "thinner books," well source books tend to have a lower page count then core rule books. That's the nature of the beast.

My Black Industries Dark Heresy has been to England, Turkey, Kuwait, Puerto Rico, North Carolina, Washington and Cali, oh and home. All in a suitcase or backpack. Don't know what "handling your books carefully" means but you need to change your method. Did have this happen to a Heartbreak book, oh and my SLA Ind book nut the were soft-cover. Oh, oh, oh my Earthdawn book did this, it was hard-cover.

I have to agree with Brother Praetus on the "thinner books" point. It's just the nature of the beast. Not to mention that, if you look at the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay releases, they were pretty thin to.

My core book's cover is warping and peeling. I treat it very carefully and it is not kept in the sun or anything dumb like that and it is getting worse. No problems with any of the other books, just the Core.

I haven't had any problems with the binding. Did have one from Amazon where the corners where bent and there was an air pocket on the cover that caused a crease when I tried to push it out.

One thing I did with a couple of my game books when the binding started to go (including Warhammer 40k 1st ed) is I took it to Kinkos. Had them cut the binding and then punch the pages and insert a spiral binding. It worked pretty good. The spiral binding allowed the book to be opened flat. Might try that for those that are having binding issues. It wasn't that expensive and definately cheaper than a new book.

I've known a couple of my friends, back in the day, to buy duplicate copies of a gaming resource and do that with one while keeping the other intact for the bookshelf. Always seemed a shame to do it in my eyes, especially when they were both still brand new copies. But to each their own.
