Moving Shield Generator shields units around - how does that work?

So I get that shields = black dice for the other side, that's not the issue. I'm more wondering about moving shields around once you've got a sexy shield generator.

Okay, so a stock 1300 has two shields - one front, one back. One Angle Deflector Shields maneuver and you can have both in front, or both in back. So far, so good. A couple of good scores later and you add the Reinforced Shield Generator to the ship - "one additional point of defense to one defense zone of choice."

Can that point move? I was assuming that you could flip it forward or backward like one of the stock shields - put all three (with two Angle Deflector Shields maneuvers) to the rear. But, it could be interpreted, by the reading of the text, that once you assign it, that point is forever locked in place.

Once you place it, you've set its default coverage - where it goes every time the shield generator is started up. You can still angle it normally to cover other facings.

That's what I thought - it seemed silly the other way, but I wanted to make sure by asking the peanut gallery.

Yep, that's how we play it as well....upgrade that shield generator with some after market mod work and you'll have a bunch of points to juggle around. :)

Remember you are limited to a max of 4 points in any one arc. So even with a fully modified reinforced shield generator the best defence that you can get is "only" 4/1 or 1/4 (front/rear).

I wonder, is it legal by the rules to install multiple copies of the same attachment, such as 2 of the above shield generators giving the ship a constant 4/4 defence? I can't see anything to say no in the rules, other than narrative of course.

You cannot install multiples of any attachment (excepting adding weapons).

Happy, I hope you are right, but can you give a page reference where it says that?

Wait - where does it say that? I missed that bit!

Piggybacking on this topic, I had a player ask me if he could use the Boost Shield Maneuver several times for cumulative effect.

He wanted to take the ship with 1 shield front and 1 shield back, then boost shields in the front, then boost shields in the back making it 2 front and 2 back. THEN he wanted to angle the shields to be 4 in front.

I thought this was a bit of a stretch so I limited him to only boosting shields once, but his argument seems plausible. There is no limitation to boosting shields, aside from the ship taking a strain.

Thoughts?
