New Asteroid Placement Rules for a small tourney

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

I will be attending a tourney this week. They have new Asteroid Placement rules:

Asteroids can be placed as normal, however, you may place 1 or your asteroids anywhere on the board, but must be at least 1 range from other asteroids and cannot be in the the enemy deployment zone.

This allows you to put one down the side of the board, thus stopping the standard formation flying and cutting into the center of the field.

Has anyone played anything like this before?

Just curious?

Yeah, that seems like it could be skewed to make things more difficult for setting up formations. It's an unusual condition. The smart bet is to bring a squad that doesn't depend on deploying in a solid block in the corner. A small swarm (5 ships) would probably be all right.

Consider the possibility that most of the players will take the corner-denial asteroid placement strategy and count on the middle of the play area being more open than usual. I'm thinking a highly maneuverable (as in: get behind 'em) squad might work best.

I disagree, with the astroids so spread out bring the swarm. a clogged up middle of the mat is problems for swarms if you can get the astroids out to the edge more it opens up the middle.
