Running Assault at Imdaar Alpha

By Keoki, in X-Wing

Does anyone know what the TO gets for running this? With the Kessel Run the TO got the fourth prize ship remaining, but the announcement for Imdaar Alpha says they go to the top four players and doesn't show any TO incentive. And with all the events to be held during one weekend, running one of them might mean not getting to play in one.

I believe if there is two TO one can play. One has to remain out of play. Kind of like. A referee

Kessel Run kits had 6 ships. Firespray, YT, 2x A, 2x Interceptors. For the Kessel Runs the TO/store got the 5th and 6th ship for running it. Most I attended gave them out to 5th and 6th place finishers.

That's right - I'd forgotten that there were two A-wings and Interceptors in the kit. Does anyone know how many Imdaar will have? The announcement only shows one of each.

From what I read first place get first pick of wave 4 and so on, down to fourth place.

From there you make a list with the new ships and play another game.

As far as I know, only one of each, the TO will get nothing. But it could include an extra ship for the TO, but not advertise it

As long as the TO has someone to make rulings in his game he can play in the event.

There is nothing for the TO for running the event.

This is what I am doing. I'm naming a second TO for my games during the event. It is not a regional or store championship so I have no problems playing in the event. IF I am in the top two for the final round I'll drop down to third place and let the third place player play in the top two. I find this to be fair because I'm giving up a day where I could go play and win ships but no one can accuse me of cheating my games or schedule if I would be the top player because I'm NOT playing in the top event.

This comes back to something I said after worlds and that is that FFG needs a to certify people to TO events. They also need to award them for there time and effort. I know how much time I put in at the store I run events at. I have several stores asking me to run events for them, including a regional, but because of obligations to the store I'm at and my real life schedule it isn't worth my time. If FFG would sweeten the pot, I'd be down for retiring from tournament play and running events for other stores. I like doing it and people have told me a good at it and they always have fun when I run events. Sorry I just went off on a tangent but I don't think it's fair for people to run events for FFG and get nothing out of it.

The TO gets a community that will hopefully buy product from the store and prevent said store from going under.

The TO isn't necessarily an employee of the store, though. It would've been nice if there was some type of goodie thrown in for the TO.

The last event I was at the TO was horrible, but I don't think he understood the rules as well as I do.

First off he decided not to use asteroids. It states in the rules that players take turns putting out asteroids. Says nothing about them being optional

He also told us right before we start so at this point I was already signed up with what I was going to play with. If I had known I would have used a tie swarm, which btw won the event.

Also at first he said 4 games, 75 min. Again right before the game he changed it to 3 games 60 min cause one or two had to leave a little early which makes me ask why go to a event and expect others to work around your schedule.

I am going to the next one at the end of may but now that I know more about the rules I intend on speaking up and am going to make sure that he knows what he is doing.

I also have to drive 2 hours and pay about 100 bucks (cause of toll) to get there

If he messes this one up again is there some sort of action that can be taken?

Someone said to report him to ffg,but how do I do that? And what will they do?

Edit.

Oh, and I think he also messed up the pairing wrong. All he did each round was take everyone sheets and randomly select 2 and that was a game.

I believe according to the rules that the first round is random except people who travel together can't be matched up.

After that it goes by a point system. The higher point gets matched up against the lowest or something like that. Please correct me on that.

I hate to be that guy who is strict by the rules but when I have to drive 2 hours and after gas, tolls,it is about 100 cdn.

Next event I'll be sure to make sure that he knows what he is doing

Krynn: Just make sure you read the FAQ and Tournament Rules and have them printed out.

Picasso: Naming a second TO is what FFGs Tournament Rules says to do for a player-TO. Nothing about not playing in the finals though! You could always play and just take last pick for prizes at the end.

Hopefully there is something for the TO. In my experience the TO is a local gamer who is not an employee of the store and just happens to have a passion for helping the gaming community thrive.

Personally I don't like the idea of TOs also being players because it potentially hinders their objectivity, but on the other hand volunteers passing on the chance to win one of the new ships is unfair to the TOs, so I do hope there is a gift of some sorts for the TOs in the package.

If there isn't an physical prize for the TO then if I was a store owner I'd give the guy a gift certificate and 1st dibs on any of the Imdar Alpha Ships once they come out in June.

The TO for this event gets nothing from FFG in the kit. Unless they add something at the last minute, I do not see the TO recognized for their efforts. I think too many stores have sold their kits for events like this, which has caused FFG to become weary of these events and adding extra product.

As a TO, if i am running the event, I do not play in the event. I do that to stay completely impartial, and to make sure the even runs smoothly.

Klutz,

I know but for me it's no big deal. In all honesty I want the people playing in the event to have a good time. I also don't want people thinking I'm cheating them.

For full disclosure: I was not the judge, but I do know him. I was not the winner nor even close to that.

To clarify, it wasn't that asteroids were not used but that each player had the option of placing them. So you should have still had three in play.

Apparently, that is a house rule that they've used. I agree that it would have been nice to know that ahead of time. I did ask about that because it gives an edge to swarms and huge ships. Interestingly, my first opponent who didn't place asteroids did place them in future games.

Also at first he said 4 games, 75 min. Again right before the game he changed it to 3 games 60 min cause one or two had to leave a little early which makes me ask why go to a event and expect others to work around your schedule.

The players in question (new to this venue) asked prior to coming and were told that events were usually done by 5pm which worked for their schedule. They also stated at arrival that if things went long they would have to leave early ... knowing that the last game would be a loss for them and would accept that. The judge kept the timeframe in line with their usual routine.

I also have to drive 2 hours and pay about 100 bucks (cause of toll) to get there

That's quite the exaggeration.

That is not correct. He sorted the sheets in W/L and points order so that he would follow the FFG rules. I've seen other venues do this as well.

So where was this event at? You weren't even there

If you can list the city and store the event was at then is believe your were there.

First off he out right said no asteroids and everyone was surprised, but agreed to it.

There was no having an option to place your three.

The game started at 4pm so what are you talking about 5pm

Taking every person sign up sheet, putting them face down and randomly selecting them is not how it is done by ffg rules.

And yes it cost my about 100 bucks. 50 for gas, 45 for the bridge and then food.

So don't come in here and and talk like you know what going on.

People like you is what is wrong with the Internet. Now gfy

You kid must have a pretty sad life to troll around here.

Up until now the community here had been great and helpful.

You on the other hand just try to ruin it for everyone else.

I suppose you at every tournament in every city all the time. Nice talent

Looking at your profile I see your in the US. So you fly to Canada for local store tournaments?

Nothing I hate more than people who talk or if their ass on subjects they know Absolutelynothing about, so before making comments like I'm exaggerating learn to keep your mouth shut

1. I am sorry to have responded to your post. From what you described, it sounded just like a tourney I was just at. Your profile didn't show your location; if it had I would have realized it was not the same event.

2. Thank you so much for your helpful response. A simple "Dude, we are talking about different tourneys." would have sufficed.

3. I am sorry your experience was what it was. I hope your next tourney goes much better.

Up until now the community here had been great and helpful.

Ditto.
