Closeups of Wave 4 ships!

By Rhinoviru3, in X-Wing

Nice!

I've never really liked the E-Wing design, but that version is growing on me. I think I can get used to it.

I'll take four.

Argh, please stop down your aperture so your depth of field isn't so narrow. Only a little slice of each ship is in focus, which makes looking at them difficult.

That's the spirit!

I didn't take them! The budding photographer in my cried a little, but the Star Wars nerd in me told me to man up and drool over the Phantom :L

Fair enough, you're off the hook. =P But we must, pitchforks and torches in hand, find the person who did take them and fix the f-stop function on his camera.

These make me really excited we have to wait 35 more days for a chance to win one. I am guessing about 30-35 days after to get the preorders.

Super excited.

I am glad that last year I found this game at target on clearance. It is highly enjoyable and you the community make it that much better.

Wait, the E-Wing has a cannon mounted above the cockpit?! How the heck do you get in there?! I know the tie defender had a hard to access hatch but that was simply from using mass produced parts to keep it cheap, the E-Wing looks needlessly complicated. Add to that you are going to blind yourself every time you fire... Bleh.

Thanks for the pics!

I'm not thrilled with the E-wing design, but it was admittedly not a real ship, so the getting in and out isn't quite as important.

I've seen pictures from the comics where the cannon is actually two parts and the front part rotates up with the hatch to get in/out.

Hey look! It's the picture I was referring to! How magical for it to just arrive on cue like that.

Ask and ye shall receive, Lord Khyros.

Least I can do for all the Math you do for me...

Very interesting, but it just rubs me the wrong way. Thanks for the insight :)

Yes the Ewing design is nonsensical even by scfi standards and the gun right over the cockpit is a big part of why. It's also uninspired IMHO. Add to that an internally mounted astromech (let's make things as hard as possible, shall we?). Lastly, when you fired that top cannon the flash of the shot leaving the barrel would blind you momentarily. Ugly AND dumb. But I like the stats. Didn't initially like the phantom but it is growing on me. Have always like the look of the defender, though not sure how you land any of the ties, especially that one.

That's why cockpit hulls have glare reduction. :P

The E-wing makes as much sense as any other Star Wars Design. That being that the tech follows an unlikely to be effective route, but more technobabble can make it moderatley sensical without looking too deep. But if you look at it deeply the whole thing makes little to no sense.

I think that I'd be okay with the design of the E-Wing if you moved the engines closer to the center line, put cannons on each wing tip, and then doubled the wings.

;)

The E-wing makes as much sense as any other Star Wars Design.

I do find it a little funny when someone says that some part of Star Wars is unrealistic...

*L* I s\till prefer my E Wing design to the official one, amd having a Y Wing style turret intead of the ridiculous over the cockpit gun makes more sense. I actually like the Phantom but still am seriously averse to the Defender

check out the location of the real world F-18 cannon... right in front of the cockpit!!!

I don't have a problem with nose mounted, or under the nose, or heck, even beside, but right above the canopy? No. That and if you look at how a F-18 fires the cannon, all you have is a puff of smoke, not a bright laser. Yea, it probably isn't as big of a problem as it seems, but it is still bothering. After all, the E-Wing is supposed to be a step forward =p

A simple solution - Install a sun visor in the canopy to block it out. Works for cars with the sun... why not for space ships with the cannon. And if properly placed, it shouldn't affect much else.

Why does everyone think that the lasers on the E-wing would blind the pilot when the lasers on the TIE Fighter are just as close to the canopy and don't blind them? And there are twice as many cannons on the TIE Fighter's cockpit than there are on the E-wing, so twice the blindness.

Well, no.

It's also not quite that simple since they are in a glass case, and I can't control the lighting nor positioning. To get that close to the subject, with that level of detail and shutter speed fast enough, in that level of light, without turning it into a blurry grainy mess, I'm already shooting at ISO 1600, F4, 1/250th, with an IS macro lens on a full frame sensor DSLR.

I also like the shallow DoF. It highlights a specific aspect of the model in each shot, and the images were selected from a larger set to pick out features I though were cool. My camera, my images, my choices. Take your own images if you are so unhappy.

tl;dr: meh, go ***** at someone who cares what you think

Isn't there software that makes the camera take multiple images at once at different focal points and then combines them digitally into a single image? I'm a member of a modeling board and there was a whole thread dedicated to this. I'm not a photography guy (ironically, my job is a photographer for GE), so I didn't really make note of it, but I know the gist was that you could take really sharp photos of small objects with this software and have all of the object in focus.
