Imperial pilot help

By Skysta1ker, in X-Wing

Hi, everyone! I've been toying with making a post here for awhile, but finally decided to go ahead with it. First of all, I'm loving this game to death and I play it as much as possible, however, with that said, I'm also terrible at it. The only game I've won out of 10+ was when my opponent accidentally flew off the board.

I've made this post to see if anyone out there could offer a helping hand or two with maybe a squad build or even general flying tips. As to my selection of ships, I've got:

1core set

2 tie interceptor expansions

1 tie advanced

1 tie expansion

1 imperial aces expansion

1 lambda shuttle expansion

On the rebel side I've got

1 of each b-wing, y- wing, x-wing and a-wing.

I'm usual flying 3 tie ints or the shuttle and 2-3 fighters, any tips or help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Howdy. I was in a similar situation as you. I asked for help here on these forums, and the end result of the advice i received was this thread. http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/101539-put-me-through-boot-camp/#entry1015579

The advice in it is spectacular. I cannot recommend going through the exercises in it more highly. I went from never winning a game to being solid middle of the pack at a store championship with a huge turnout. Check out the thread, it will help.

Thanks a bunch for that, it's funny how much his post mirrors mine, especially the beginning.

This guy has a lot of posts about mostly every card/pilot. He also suggests how to run things too.

And, I love interceptors, Turr Phennir is, IMO, one of the best pilots.

Off the top of my head as a fellow imperial player who enjoys interceptors is that you are going to upgrade heavy on your ships, while it may be fun to consider buying all of the bells and whistles for your ships you need to realistically look at how often something will be used in a game. I.E. Just because you can throw 2 torpedoes AND 2 missiles AND a bomb on a Tie Bomber, do you really expect your opponent to let you shoot off 4 rounds of ordinance? (I know you don't have a bomber but it is a perfect example of this lesson)

You probably should up that to 4 ships in a pure squint build, and you should be able to run a Lambda+4-5 Ties (or 2-3 Squints)

A 4 Squint build I am trying out is

Fel-PTL

Lorrir

Fel's Wrath

Tetran Cowall

The biggest thing to remember about Interceptors is that they need to maneuver learning how to effectively barrel roll and boost is a requirement to being successful with them(Hence why lots of people give them PTL, so you can do both or one and still focus)

Of special interest should be Flying In Formation, Pilot Skill, Rule of 11 (HUGE HELP FOR YOUR OPENING AND APPROACH!), and Beating Duel Falcons (just good focus fire tips in general to follow there too). These helped turn me into a nightmare for my opponents early on.
