No Star Destroyers, Please

By Punning Pundit, in X-Wing

for me the best argument against an ISD is still that it wasn't the first or one of the first big ships.

The best pro argument for it is that it is the most iconic huge ship Star Wars offers, and that's a point I think everyone agrees on.

So if I would be FFG and would plan to bring epic play with huge ships out on the market I would have started with an ISD, at least if I would think it would work and would ever plan to produce it. It would be the ideal ship to entice people to get into the epic play part. The fact that they didn't do that and picked 2 ships with some name, but far less renown (and from one faction) tells me that they won't don't do it at all. Also, the 2 rebel ships instead of a the more probable 1 rebel on 1 Imp ship combo might indicate that the respective Imp ships won't have the iconic value and they wanted to get started with known stuff (same strategy as with the small ships)

so independent of size and scale discussions, I would bet the huge Imp ships will far less known if not even new designs, but that's just me. :)

I'd be pretty stoked, but there is always going to be the argument that it's not an ISD. I personally would implement an ISD for this game as an off-board ship (which is what I think they've done with the rebel transport expansion).

Please do not include a Star Destroyer in this game.

Minimal scaling anomalies are 'acceptable' for the huge ships. They add another, tolerable, dimension to the game.

A Star Destroyer would break my faith in the original purpose and concept of the game.

Please, FFG, it's not broke, so don't try to fix it with an obvious gimmick.

How would everyone feel if they did a Vigil Class Frigate (Mini ISD) ?

Lots of engaging and productive discussion on the Vigil and many other Imperial ships similar in size and scale to the Corvette and Rebel Transport that would actually fit and work within the existing scale of X-Wing can be found here .

I see no problem to just shrink the Vigil down to 150m

Nobody would care.

... and here you have it! The perfect imperial EPIC ship :D

1. Have FFG created a great game?

2. Have all their releases been cool models at fair prices?

3. Has there been any game breaking releases?

4. Or releases so terrible nobody has bought one?

If you answered...

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. No

4. No

...then trust the company to keep up their excellent reputation and trust that Empire players will not be disappointed.

With the Vigil's wedge shape, I could see it having three bases instead of two. But bases in a triangular pattern might interfere with the current move template. It's also almost twice as long as the CR-90. I wouldn't want to sacrifice to much of that scale, so you're talking about an almost 2' model.

The DP-20 still seems like a better fit, but if the details and size issues for the Vigil could be worked out it would be a fun ship, with strong Imperial overtones.
