GR 75 Medium Transport

By zhentil, in X-Wing

So now that we have seen this ship do you think that the Transport will be used in the normal 100 pt. squad lists or will this be strictly for Epic Play.

If it has the epic symbol it is designed for epic play only AFAIK. Nothing wrong with using it in casual play or with both players consent.

Tournamentwise, they're only in the Epic format.

Casual, do what you want, although 100pts is probably going to just get you the transport and maybe a Z-95 or two.

I think the lowest I would field it at is 150-200. I think overall I'll keep my epic ship games at 200 so that it doesn't get to unmanageable.

I plan on using them in both Epic and normal "casual" games. I play Warhammer Fantasy and even at a X-Wing 250-300 point games I find that it's still very quite manageable and less time played overall in comparison. But for those who don't play Warhammer or other table top war games other than X-Wing, I can see where it could seem to take "forever" to play and the overall mess of ships on the table are too cluttery. But for me, it's how I enjoy it the most!

As long as you have the table space for the increased points I agree. We found out the hard way that 300 points on each side on a 3' x 3' turns into a rush hour traffic jam murder spree :P After the first collision they all just stack up and nobody gets an action.

I can totally see that on a 3'x3' table. I have a 3'x14' dining room table. Since I play other TT Wargames, I have some nicely cut pink insullation foam that is cut into 1.5'x4' sections. I place 3 of them on my dining room table and place my GW Citadel Grass Battlemat upside down (nice solid black cloth underneath) over the foam boards to make my space table for X-Wing. This has worked perfectly for everything we've played points-wise so far and can easily add another foam section for Epic Play if needed.

Not really, the GR-75 is base 30 points, even if you spent another 20 on upgrades, you still have 50 points, that's easily wedge and a rookie. Granted, that is still not very much of an escort, but a far side better than 1-2 Z95s.

"Two fighters against a star destroyer?"

I'm really trying to buy a transport, but when I can get 4 x 4 attack dice phantoms and 2 defenders or 2 e-wings for the same cash it doesn't make since. I already ordered two CR90's, THEY make since. The transports seem to be big asteroids that will be attempting to just flop over on other units.

I'm sure two friends having a friendly game can always ignore that rule if they wanted to.

They are ultimate support vessels, stressing an opposing fighter for 2 turns, giving out free actions, Stripping tokens off of enemies, relieving stress and giving focus, a true 'draw their fire' effect or dealing direct damage to the ship you just stressed out.

And they function as a shield to hide behind for the fighter escorts.

It doesn't necessarily need to be used for one side or another - it could potentially be used as an objective for various scenario-based games.

Ahuh, and scenarios are great ways of getting people into the game. Straight up dogfighting and they might get outplayed. With scenarios you can set the game up for one side to be handicapped.
