House Rules:

By Duke of Advil, in X-Wing

Empire vs. Rebels only!

Wedge cannot fight Luke, no matter how much you expand the universe.......and even attempting to talk to me about Howlrunner against Soontir Fel may get you escorted to the door. OK I may seem a little course, but it is one house rule I have. Am I too attached to the storyboard to be objective?

Imo play as however you want. If everyone you play with doesn't mind then feel free to do that

Only house rule my friends and I use are who ever house we are playing at we use their tokens so we don't get them mixed up

Winner buys the beer? Seems logical to me, that way they win and feel good, and you get beer, so you feel good!

Anything breaks or spills, Vonpenguin gets the 15 or 30 bucks he needs to replace it.

Don't like it? Stop being such a cheapstake and get your own ships!

This rule will not be fun once huge ships hit.

Rebel vs. Rebel and Imp vs. Imp are considered to be training exercises. In the EU, there's plenty of description of using low-power cannons and dud ordnance for "live fire" dogfight training. Their onboard computers simulate the damage any given hit would have caused by disabling systems and whatnot.

That should tickle your storyboard fancy and still allow mirror matches.

I have no issue lending ships, even if they are light on Emp or Reb but...

If you don't set some ground rules next thing you know you have Porkins vs Porkins. Arghhhhh... it's anarchy I tell ya!

You also have the fact that they do mission training in simulators. Both X wing and TIE sims... Though I will admit, most rebel pilots don't spend much time in TIE sims... The members of Wraith Squadron do at least... And the New Repub had easy access to a TIE sim to outfit the squadron with it... so it seems logical that other units would have TIE sims.

Ours is if it's borderline it's out. If a ship's on the Range 2/3 line it's in 3.

The other one is obstruction by asteroid is measured from the centre of the base.

That's what we always call them at our FLGS.

Training exercises.

OK, maybe I'm splitting hairs here, but the likelihood of Vader using a simulator to dogfight himself is as slim as Garry Kasparov playing against Kasparov on a computer.

Not exactly true. Vader might be in flight with his own black squadron practicing against himself. Who better to fly your squad against then the dark lord and ace pilot? When it comes down to it, play the side that you enjoy the most, you should never feel shoehorned into something you don't wanna do. This meaning if you and your friends like thematic battles, cool! If both people like flying rebel, they shouldn't have to switch. There are plenty of reasons thematically that this would work as well.

Because an attack being obstructed or not through an asteroid is not always clear, my house rule is 50% or more of the ship blocked by an asteroid and it's obstructed if it's not obvious. I also only play empire vs. rebel.

Have fun. Fly casual.

These pretty much apply to any game.

I'm not a total Fascist. I do let my guest choose what faction they want to pilot.

I often end up in 2 on 1 matches, and while directly forbidden by the rules, we have decided it's okay to show each other our dials while planning. We justify it as each faction having their own encrypted comm channels. We'd probably play correctly if it were 2 on 2, but we feel 2 on 1 gives too much advantage to the 1.

I have red and green range rulers. Red for scum, and green for the forces of order and justice. Use the wrong ruler to measure your shot, and you have to take a shot of the cheap bourbon (s'okay, I like cheap bourbon (old crow)).

And $1 per point of killed enemy ships to the winner!

My only house rule? There are no house rules. While my opponent wraps their brain around that lovely paradox, I vape their ships.

I get tired of playing with similar asteroids every time so one house rule i occasionally enact is sometimes just throwing asteroids at random onto the play area.

man i want to see this story lover in one of the touarnements or local gaming events yelling and slapping people who are mixed in mirror matches maybe even with the same LISTS OH GOD PLEASE SAVE US !!!

Let the wookie win... and then steal his beer.

Well, my mates and I enjoy the banter of unlikely battles like Wedge vs. Luke et al.

Luke fires on Wedge: "Ah, did I hit you? Bet I can stay with you ."

Biggs fires on Luke: "Yeah, well, we never enjoyed your company at Tashi Station anyway."

Vader fires on Han: "You're about to have a bad feeling about this."

Vader clips a fellow Imperial: "Apology accepted [name]."

Tycho fires on Wedge: "Yub yub Commander."

Fel fires on Wedge: "Your sister says hello."

etc.

It's not exactly a house rule but I've never played a mirror match

A tournament (or practicing/testing for a tournament) is one thing, but for casual games it just seems natural to play rebels vs imperials in a star wars game

Should be the good guys versus the bad guys.

Plus, any rule involving beer or bourbon can't be ignored.

I generally try to avoid mirror matches in casual play, unless I'm training for a tournament.

Lately I've also gotten into the habit of being pretty strict on tournament rules (no measuring range unless it's combat phase or you are specifically about to use an ability that requires you to check range), and barrel roll/boost declaration.
