First run with Vader

By Greedyfly, in X-Wing

Hi guys I'm reasonably new to xwing and new to the ffg community.

I have been kicking a few list a round and had somewhat limited success. I had my first run with vader tonight and a new list I thought I would try out and had great game and a great win.

The list was

Vader , swarm tactics , cluster missiles

RGP , push the limit

RGP , push the limit

Night beast

The list I played against was Han tooled up with wedge tooled up.

I have lost many games to this list and although I had some good luck tonight the game plan I had actually held up.

My question is have anyone else run a list close to this and has it held up against many other list and do you guys think it could have a chance against many other lists.

It's not a bad list at all.

I personally run Vader with and Engine Upgrade as it makes him hyper mobile.

I might also find the points to get backstabber instead of Nightbeast, probably by dropping swarm tactics on Vader.

You are going to find the RGP's to be very fragile, but highly maneuverable, making Vader the same way and taking Backstabber will give your opponent fits.

Turrets are a pain for this list and you'll just have to grin and bear it and focus fire it down as quickly as you can. In the specific list you reference above though, kill Wedge first.

Some of the new cards coming out soon will be interesting on Vader, but I'll hold comment as they can't be used now and I'm not much for speculating.

I find it's always a tough choice who to target first, tonight I hit Han first cos I had the missiles on vader and wanted to use them first before he got taken out , it worked as swarm tactics helped get him down a few hull as well ( I won initiative ) . I like your idea with back staber but kept nightbeast doing greens and it helped having 4 ships with focus and evade up. I was going for the hit hard in one place and it worked. Question is how would this hold up to 4 or more ships

Vader will get more interesting after Wave 5, where there will be additional options to play around with him. Whilst not all of it is confirmed yet, I would highly recommend you use online squadron builders (if you don't already!) that allow you to tinker with potential builds.

I like to give my Vader an Engine upgrade; with two actions per turn, sometimes that boost can make all the difference in lining up your shots! Worth playtesting if you are familiar with Interceptors already :)
