Your favorite 4 x-wing squad?

By AtomicFryingPan, in X-Wing

Like the topic title says I want to see what some of you guys are running in terms of 4 x-wing sqauds and why. Thanks in advance!

I wouldnt usually ever run XXXX (I prefer XXBB or XXYB) but you could go for this list

Luke

Garvin

Biggs

Rookie

Nice and simple, in a few weeks (after you get the Transport) you could run 4 x Uniques:

Jek Porkins

Tarn Mission

and 2 of Garvin, Biggs or Hobbie Klivian

good times

Garven

Biggs+R2F2

Red Squadron

Red Squadron

It's basic and synergizes well, but not so essential I can't split formation and improvise. Enough PS to shoot over a lot of swarmy builds and enough bodies to block high PS builds. I like it.

I find it difficult not to run parallellism when going with the same ships.

I have 2 XXXX fleets (both adapted from my XXBB fleets)

The first is 4x Rookies with Engine Upgrades (25 a piece).
Boost on an X-Wing is a great option for a non-focus defensive action, as well as also being great for offense, and at navigating asteroid thickets.

The second is 4x Rookies with Hull Upgrades and R5 Astromechs (Also 25 points a-piece)..
Nothing makes the great offense of an X-Wing better than added tankiness, after all. Having 3 hull on which to stack crits (the 4th would kill you, after all), and remembering that over half of the damage deck is negated by an R5 Astromech (Only 8/33 of it is Pilot-based Crits, but some of the remaining 25 Ship-based crits flip themselves over before the combat phase ends anyway) means that I now have 6-hp Mini-Chewbaccas running around.

As both of these are 25 point builds, one could theoretically mix and match, and potentially throw in a Biggs for good measure.

Garvin

Hobbie with R3-A2

Tarn with Flechettes

and a Rookie

Garven is there to make Hobbie and Tarn better. Hobbie passes out stress and Tarn has Flechettes for a range 3 attack that causes stress.

For 99, you can run three named X-Wings: Tarn, Biggs, Hobbie and Garven. A pity Tarn can't take an EPT; you could have 3 at PS5 and 1 at PS6

Wedge, PTL, R2

Biggs

Rookie

My personal favorite is running 4x Reds 2 with shield upgrade, they all move and shoot together, PS to out do at least half of your opponents list (barring a 3x Elites) and the added survivability with the extra shields. Plus it's been a good list to learn the game on because you can just work on maneuvering and the basics without having to remember pilot abilities.

Granted I've just started out in the game and only have a couple games under my belt.

Mine is similar,

Garven

Biggs+R2F2+Stealth

I swap the ps on the generics for *hopefully* a longer life on biggs.

I'm currently running:

Luke + R2D2 + DTF

Biggs

Rookie x 2

Wedge w. Swarm

Biggs

Rookie w. R2 Mech

Rookie w. R2 Mech

As to why,

Swarm tactics for the 9/9/5/2 PS in the Combat Phase

R2s for the added green maneuvers on the Rooks as it makes them quite flexible when it comes to shedding stress.

Just wondering; why the R2s on the rookies as opposed to Wedge and Biggs?

I also tend towards 2x 2b, but when I run 4x I like the list R2 posted.

Garven

Biggs

Red

Red

This gives you a shooting order of 6,5,4,4. Also you come in at 99 giving you a point for initiative.

Once the transport comes out ill swap the reds out but for now this is as good as 4x gets.

The Luke and friends build is my favorite.

Luke + DTF + Shield + R2D2

Rookie

It's pretty fun to see damage spread to Luke, and R2D2 it back up

I'm excited about Hobbie and Tarn, so they're probably going to get quite a bit of use out of me over the next few months. Something like

Hobbie w/ R3D2 (I think that's a natural fit)

Biggs

Tarn

Rookie

With 4 points to flavor (upgrade Tarn to Garven/Porkins for 3... upgrade rookie to red for 2... give Hobbie PTL and put R3D2 elsewhere... etc)... Though I doubt I'm actually going to be running as 4X. But I really want to play Hobbie and Tarn, and I feel like Biggs will go really well with Hobbie... Something to do with you can leave Biggs behind, but move Hobbie first... and still protect someone useful (which is one of my biggest problems with Biggs+Wedge... You practically have to go 2 speed min for everything).

As for what I've actually played and loved:

Wedge w/ PTL + R2

Biggs

Rookie

Rookie

Setup on both flanks, force them to go after one of the groups (it'll almost always be Wedge+Biggs). Then your rookies play chase, and being that they're low PS doesn't matter if no one is shooting them.

I like:

Luke w/R2D2 and Engine Upgrade

Rookie x3

If you go for luke first, the rookie's get time to get in their shots. If you leave Luke for last, well, you don't want to leave Luke for last.

I don't own 4 x-wings, so I really rarely get the chance to run just x-wings. The more I've played, the more underwhelming I find them. I really hope pilots that come with the transport shake things up a little bit, as it's a tiny bit of a bummer that such an iconic ship can be somewhat boring to fly (at least to me).

Would we say Luke is DTF? Nobody else was thinking that?! Gotta be a better acronym for that.

Wedge ptl, astromech

Biggs

I'm currently running:

How is it doing?

Wedge ptl, astromech

Biggs

Aggressive.

I'm currently running:

Biggs

I also favour this build. Such toughness. Much blasting.

This game is all about agressive play so why not go all in.

Wedge

Janson

Rookie x 2

'specially since the only thing resembling a love interest is his twin sister...
