Gunner and huge ships.

By mrgoodtrips, in X-Wing

Just had a look at the epic torny rules and gunner cannot be equiped on huge ships. Will this apply to normal games aswell or is it just for ffg torny events.

In non-FFG sanctioned events you can use whatever you want. I don't want to the epic tournament but I'm going to do I'm going up The epic points to six

The rules for "normal" games are whatever you make them--but most of the players I know follow most, if not all, of the tournament rules anyway.

Will this apply to normal games as well or is it just for ffg torny events.

That will depend on what everyone agree's to I guess. Also there may be something in the rules that come with the CR-90 that say you can't use the gunner. The PDF they released seemed to be pretty generic, and I expect there to be additional rules for the two ships when they come out.

That said... I think most people will use the tourney rules as the default, so no gunner, Biggs won't help, ect...

Wonder if gunner/ luke overpowered the tantive and the bigs ruling makes sense.

Wonder if gunner overpowered big ships so asume luke must be out of the question to.

I'm not so sure it would be that OP'ed. The primary on a CR-90 isn't that powerful, 4 dice +1 with energy, range 3-5.

Gunner/Luke only let you take 1 extra attack. So you couldn't use them for every attack. Fully loaded the CR-90 can make 4 shots, 5 if the quad laser misses and you have energy for it. Gunner/Luke say you can't attack again this round, so you're not going to get 8-10 shots out of it.

Luke was also listed as not being allowed on huge ships in tournament play.

I mean think about it -- huge ships fire their primary and secondary weapons every turn. Letting them use Gunner or Luke on top of that is just insane.

As for Biggs, it's just a common sense matter of scale. Him zipping around in an X-Wing could distract another fighter. A corvette isn't going to care.

Navigator is the more interesting restriction, IMHO. With the Huge ships having a phase of their own after everything else had moved, it would have been crazy awesome to control the speed and play steamroller.

I expect that most players will adopt the tourney rules as a normal Epic game just as they have with the standard. It would have been nice to have a few more guidelines to work with, though.

Yeah, the huge ship rules aren't bad. But I would of liked to seen a Epic rules document, with something in the tournament rules that tie into those rules.

As it is, we don't actually have any sort of epic rules, other then the tournament ones. Which as you say, most people will use.

yeah but we have to take into consideration the new rules for performing multiple attacks in one round.

Maybe I read the rules wrong, but I thought it was more along the lines of if someone is going to shoot at the corvette then they can, biggses "hey look I'm over here!" won't work. Which doesn't make sense cause if I'm standing here about to fire on a tank and a guy standing next to it sees me, I'm gonna get distracted and shoot him instead.

But again, maybe I miss read it

Doesn't matter not with how the Gunner card is worded.

After you perform an attack that does not hit, immediately perform a primary weapon attack. You cannot perform another attack this round.

It doesn't say primary or secondary attack there. So lets say you fire with your primary then use gunner to shoot again, you'd actually lose any other attacks you could fire that round. So with the rules as written right now, I don't see how Gunner would be that big of a deal. It simply gives you another attack same as it does for any other ship.

You might have more chances to use it, simply because you have more attacks per round, but it wouldn't let you double the number of attacks you get.

Also only one damage deck is used in team play so wonder if you will run out so you will have to shuffle the ones off dead ships back in.

We still do t know much about Teams. Perhaps the gunner ability is covered by them at a different cost? Without knowing everything about the CR90 yet, I guess there may be a good reason the gunner crew was excluded from huge ship use.

Also interesting because it would also allow shenanigans with energy as well as just ramming people.

'If that swarm doesnt happen to move into ramming range I will sit back and charge the quad cannons and the ionization reactor...'

If people who don't do very well with multiple evasion dice are unhappy at present I can only imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth that would occur if that were a valid combination.

In terms of thinking about crew and huge ships, I worry about the first Imperial ship that turns up.

Darth Vader and regenerating shields...
