Lashing out

By Spieler1013746, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

as it says

"During an [intrigue] challenge, kneel 2 of your [Lannister] characters to kill all attacking characters.
Limit 1 per challenge."

I wonder how I can play this card...

1) can I even play this if I am not part of that intrigue challenge? ("during an intrigue challenge")

2) Could this be my only response...? Like I get challenged with 8 power and do nothing but playing "lashing out", kneeling 2 lannister characters and all attackers are dead...? And if I do so...must the knelt characters have an intrigue - symbol...?

Mabe noob questions, but I wanna be sure about this :-)

1) Yes. It simply says "during an INT challenge." It does not specify that you have to be the defender. Heck, if you wanted to kill your own characters, you could play it when you were attacking in an INT challenge.

2) Not sure what you mean by "only response"? "Response," as in the timing of triggered effects, is not involved. But if you mean "response" as in "only thing I do as a defender," then yes. You never have to defend a challenge. And an attacker cannot win the challenge if none of their attacking characters make it to challenge resolution - no matter how many defenders you declare. Now, if you don't declare a defender, you won't win the challenge on defense, but your opponent doesn't win, either.

The effect simply says "kneel two Lanni character"; nothing about icons, STR, etc. You can kneel any two characters you control - so long as they have the Lanni House affiliation.

Thank you for your quick reply!

now this is a REALLY mean card...so I just have to have it :-D

Mean the big surprise will probably only work once "dare declaring an intrigue challenge, you can NEVER win this"...but this will be VERY funny. on the other hand using it on one house attacking another will be fun as well, as I use to be target of triggered abilities from challenges in that I'm not involved quite often...
