Chicago Northwest Suburbs (Elgin, Hanover Park, Bartlett, Schaumburg)

By corranhorn25, in X-Wing Organized Play

I have played in Mt.Prospect (Games Plus), downers grove (Fair Games), Schaumburg (gaming goat) and South Bend, Indiana. Only issue is that since I am driving 45 min-1 hr, I don't get to play as often unless I am doing a tournament.

Honestly, I am looking to start following Indiana's footsteps. They have smaller squadron communities with an active Facebook presence. Also, the players don't need to travel more than 20 minutes to play a friendly (at a FLGS or person's house).

Just looking to generate some interest in forming a local squadron for the cities listed above. From here, we can develop a Facebook page to dive on in.

I think with the strong stores you have listed doing a Facebook page would help. Please note that there is also a Gaming Goat in Elgin too.

I am out in the DeKalb/Sycamore area at New Game in Town. While we don't have a designated "X-Wing Night" there are generally two to four people there every Thursday who play.

Draxtar in Batavia to the best of my knowledge doesn't have a designated "X-Wing" night but they have a tourney about once a month with really good attendence (like 10-12 players).

So you really have quite a few places to play at. If you were to set up a groupl where would you have your group meet to play? I am down in Schaumburg most weekends and while I am not a fan of the Gaming Goats I could play there.

Hey Shintaibane!

Thanks for the response. Yeah I am in the midst of all these great places to play. For the record, I know Dekalb fairly well. Lived out there for years and went to school at NIU. How long has New Game been on Lincoln Highway? Didn't notice it in late 90s since I wasn't into gaming as much.

I like going to Fair Games in Downers for the tourneys; Planning on going for the Imdar Alpha event hopefully.

Trying to see if anyone is in 20 minute radius so we can play friday nights potentially or Sunday games.

I think I will try and set up that group on Facebook sometime this week. I will post here when I do. As for where we'd play, I think the wise move is to see where the players are located and how many. Obviously supporting FLGS are great but yeah Gaming Goats tables aren't the 3' by 3'. If small numbers exist and it's like on a friday night or weekend, I don't mind hosting a few people at my house. The x-wing community has been quite awesome so far.

Ah another Huskie! I graduated there too but never left! :)

New Game has been around in one form or another (previously it was On Board Games) since about 2008 or so. It is across the street from Yen Ching on Lincoln Highway. Good place to play but Thursday nights we compete for space with the other miniature gamers (mainly 40K, Warmachine/Hordes, and Infinity)

Haven't been down to Fair Game... I have heard it is a decent place. Draxtar isn't too far away from Downers in Batavia. It is pretty much next door to Fermi Lab.

Post the Facebook groupl information here when you can and hopefully we can get a game in some time.

I'm all the way over in Rockford. Only a couple game stores close by, one I'm not a regular at and the other I used to work for in the 80s.. lol.. I'm gonna try tonhit some tourneies this year, so keep these posts coming..

Hey guys, sorry for delay. I was working on a bunch of side projects and it all caught up to me.

The group is up!

I made it a closed group after talking to some of my friends in other x-wing groups. Prevents spam, creates more of a community feel and allows free discussion.

Hit the request button and come on in to your new squadron: Windy City Squadron. Created a new patch for us Chicagoans (both city and suburbanites)

Hope you guys don't think this is too brazen of me. I just liked what other cities were doing and getting organized. Spread the word.
