Since the Huge ships are a different scale (1/500? 1/540?), an ISD model would only be 9' long. Dooo eeet! Dooo eeet naow!
Did FFG Tip Their Hand About Imperial Huge Ship?
So I have been reading Honor Among Thieves, and I just read a part that is relevant to this discussion.
SPOILERS BELOW!
****************************
In Chapter 25, Wedge, Luke, and six other X-wing pilots shoot down a Star Destroyer. I don't know how they did it yet, but clearly this means Star Destroyers aren't beyond the scope of epic play, right?
****************************
I had to put the book down and share that.
Sigh. Here we go again. But I don't think number of guns is what determines Epic values.
Anyway, I would be interested on what a 1 Epic point ship would look like.

A YV-666 Freighter like Bossk's Hound's Tooth fits the bill almost perfectly. ~2/3rds the length of the Gallofree, but still twice that of a YT-1300, so the ramming rules can be justified. Standard-scale weaponry on a (quasi-) capital-scale ship, relying on "dirty tricks" (a tractor beam would be thematically appropriate for bounty hunters) in the same way the Gallofree will rely on its actions, Crew abilities, and "Cargo" upgrades to make a weaponless vessel viable.
If anything the rules make a ISD even less likely.A CR-90 costs 3 epic points and the max you can have is 5. Considering that a Transport with no weapons costs 2, I don't see how anyone could expect a ISD to only cost 2 more epic points then a CR-90. Just look at the vigil corvette, that would easily be 4 or maybe 5 epic points when you consider how many more guns and such it has. After reading those rules, I think it is a sure thing that there will be a Star Destroyer, and likely lots of them.
That is a reasonable argument. However, FFG with all the things they have done would not avoid producing Star Destroyers, not now that they went big. that is like Star Wars without light sabers. Maybe an ISD costs 5 epic points or something to that effect, but I just don't see how they couldn't be introduced to the game now.

An ISD is over ten times as long as the Corellian corvette. The smaller Victory-class Star Destroyers are "only" about six times as long. Both ships have weapons batteries proportional to their size.
I don't really want to engage with this particular topic again, but it's just so inconceivable to me that people aren't grasping that the relationship between the corvette and a Star Destroyer is like the relationship between a Star Destroyer and the Death Star.
I blame the widespread abuse of the term "capital ship." We are not getting capital ships for this game; we are getting light warships and transports.
I suspect (and hope) that the Vigil is the most likely option. It has the look of a Star Destroyer, whilst still being small enough to realistically bring into the game.
How about we just trust FFG will come up with something cool that's not an ISD or VSD? Those would be so far off scale to be ridiculous. I know the guys working on this stuff, they care, they will get it right.

In this case FFG would have to 'invent' an own type of an imperial corvette which looks like an ISD but much, much smaller.
So like this but as a 150m class and less turrets:

The closest thing would be the vigil-class - but with 255m in length this is still too large and too wide imho.
Leaving the Imperial Customs Corvette with 180m as the only possible imperial huge battle ship for the game.
Edited by TheRealStarkillerThere's the IPV, I'd love to get my hands on one of those, at 120 meters

You really want this?

This is like you wanted to have a Star Destroyer - but you get a horseshit.
The IPV should get a decent redesign first to be considered.
Edited by TheRealStarkillerI think I saw one of those squashed on the road once

The other images on that page show a flatter design.
Maybe it's the nostalgia from TIE Fighter but I liked that bumbly IPV design with the HUGE Antenna.
I really wish people would give the "Star Destroyer!" cries a rest. We are never getting a Star destroyer in this scale of the game. FFG had to compromise for the CR90 sure, but that was a slight compromise. You break all pretense of scale for something that is so firmly established with relation to the Corellian corvette.
Had the ship been something with dubious scale representation like, say, the XQ series platforms, there would be something. But I would rather see my Star Destroyers in another kind of game than shoe-horned into X-Wing where they'll be nothing but a joke, and a clear sign that says PAY TO WIN if they did produce one to scale.
Again, FFG would need to invent a new ship type.
Like a Pocket Star Destroyer in the size of a corvette.
And why don't? Just give this sh*tty IPV a triangular 'wedgy' form ... and there we are!
Actually, they may have an option to design the look of a ship mentioned only by name. No picture. No facts. Just it is an Imperial Navy Patrol Ship measuring 150 meters:

I don't think we will see a Epic Cost 5, but a 1 and 4 is quite possible. What about a Tartan Cruiser. It says it is 250 meter (which is pretty long), but it is not a ship that is widely known, or one that has to be that long, so you could make it smaller (or scale it a little less) to make it fit and have it still look correct.
Size Matters Not.
Yes it does. When you're trying to fit something on a 3x6 table with everything else, then size most differently does matter.
More to the point, why put in a ISD when such a thing just can not fit in both terms of size and firepower?
Make something that looks vaguely ISD like, that is the correct size and firepower such as the Vigil. Then everyone gets what they want. Other then those people who quite simply can't accept anything that isn't named a ISD. Because no matter how they do it, it will be a ISD in name only if they go that route.
Slightly OT; Does anybody know the physical dimensions of the new models? I'm looking to scratchbuild some Imperial ships of similar size to the Rebel stuff that is being made.
Slightly OT; Does anybody know the physical dimensions of the new models?
The transport is about 8 inches and the CR-90 is around 12.

Murky Buckets!
Murky Buckets!
I like that
Myself I'll often say Donkey Shorts.
