Did FFG Tip Their Hand About Imperial Huge Ship?

By Goknights12, in X-Wing

So they released that article about the Tantive and Transport, and wrote this about the Tantives weapons.

" The Tantive IV , on the other hand, is an incredibly powerful weapons platform that is capable of annihilating multiple enemy fighters in a single turn, or blasting through the shields of another huge ship"

Wishful thinking? Or a glimpse into the future?

You don't have to be a dreamer to know FFG will give the imperials a huge ship of their own. I'm honestly surprised they have not announced one yet.

Well, there's that, and there's Tonto with the Huge ship only. Rebel only delimiters.

I'm sure they're planing on releasing a Huge Imperial ship at some point. But you could have a mirror match going Reb vs Reb both with CR's.

Notice that it is Huge Ship Only AND Rebel Only. Plot thickens

Well, since tournament rules allow for mirror matches, they could easily be referring to when a Tantive goes up against another Tantive or Transport. That being said, if the Tantive proves successful, I don't know why they wouldn't work at getting an Empire Huge ship ready.

So want my Tantive that my Girlfriend keeps tellling me I'm not buying.(Totally buying it.) And the eventual inevitable Star Destroyer and what I hope to every deity ever is an amazing Tractor Beam secondary.

I though that the Nebula Class Star Destroyer was similar in size to the Corellian Corvettle.

I see its just over 1000m long, way bigger.

I could have sworn that I saw one of the imperial ships that was close in size to the corvette (with the nice distinctive imperial wedge shape)

Ah well.

Given the expense and size of the model what would make the most sense to me is an imperial "booster" pack for the corvette. 20-30 bucks, ship it with a custom tie or tie/a or something and include imperial bases and cards for the corvette. Absolutely everyone who buys the tantive would pick that up vs some to mostly everyone spending another 100 bucks on an imperial huge.

So imperial players would have to pay MORE for their huge ship than rebel players do?

Yeah, that would go over REAAAL well.

They really should have included cards for both sides in these. The corvette was used to transport IMPERIAL senators, and everyone uses cargo ships.

You are probably refering to the Vigil.

That's a fair point i guess. It depends on if they have a separate cool ship for the imperials or not i guess. If they do, then the extra cost is justified to fly an imperial version of a CR90. If they don't, then yeah i guess its a bit unfair. Better than nothing though, ya? And at least in my version it includes a new ship. the Tantiv IV is vette only for rebels i believe.

I'd agree with you though that including cards for both factions would have been preferable.

So how about a 'cut away' two-foot section of a Star Destroyer... Say the part with the banks of turbo lasers... ;p

Of course they want to create Imperial huge ships. Of _course_ they do! :) I bet there are a few people sitting around right now trying to figure out how to make it work. The trick is to make a gunship that does something neither the Corvette nor the Transport already do.

Think about the difference between Biggs and Howlrunner. They're both support ships, but one is more defensive and the other is more offensive. An Imperial Huge ship that was just the Corvette but bigger and with more guns would be... dull. But maybe a Nebulon B that could re-arm allied ships mid combat? Tie Advances might suddenly be much more useful!

Does anyone really think they won't make Imp capital ships? I hope they won't make ISDs because of the scale, but they have to make SOMETHING similar to the CR90 for the Imps.

Possibly the Marauder -class Corvette. It's not as large as the Lancer or some of the other Imperial frigates, so it would scale better. True, it doesn't look distinctly "Imperial", but it is a Sienar design, and if we get more bounty hunter or Black Sun ships it wouldn't be so out of place.

I would be cool with the Marauder, although they weren't really used by the Empire as much as their allies, the Corporate Sector Authority. I would also like a DP20, although they were older and were used by both sides(maybe more by the Rebels by the time of the Galactic Civil War) I would also like to see an Imperial Customs Corvette as they are roughly the same size and armament as a CR90. Any or all of these would be great.

Tractor Beams are going to be AWESOME!

My bet is on the Vigil-class corvette, or something like it. I thought the ships from Empire at War looked sufficiently "Imperial."

I would also love an Escort Carrier that allowed the Empire to deploy starfighters within range 1 during its activation phase, instead of at set up. It's like dropping Seismic Charges - but they fly around and shoot the opponent!

A small World Devastator is the only really likely suspect.

They showed up in Rogue Squadron.

Gonna be awesome to have on the table.

hm... I came upon this by accident and remembered this unit from Star WarsRebellion.

This is the Empire's own craft called "Assault transport", used to transport troops to occupy planets.

edit: this ship can only be used by the Empire in the game, I didn't use it much because I would use the resources to build more Star Destroyers and use the Star Destroyer's own compliment of troops; this is probably why I didn't thought of it in the first place.

edit 2: in the wiki, it says it carries 1 regiment of troops, and 1 regiment is 2,664 (clone troopers), so it might be way bigger than the rebel transport.

The announcement about the huge ship and new tournament rules actually does hint at more huge ships. I believe it was at the beginning of the article that they stated "we've previously previewed the first huge ships..."

If they have more planned or not, I think they're following a common design principle that lets them expand in the future, it'd be a problem if they decided to do huge ships, and had to errata Torryn to be rebel only or something. They seem to have run up against that by having to change how modifications and Luke/gunner apply to the huge ships. It's very sensible to word as they have.
