New Ships - April 25th?

By bzinfinity, in X-Wing

A guy at a local game store is claiming they will have GR-75s as well as the other new ships this coming friday.

I have Googled myself to death trying to vet this information, there doesn't seem to be a concrete release day anywhere that I am smart (or dumb) enough to look at.

Anybody else heard this?

It's completely plausible that they'll have the GR-75 this week, since FFG is reporting the boxes are off the boat and percolating through the distribution network.

Not sure what "other ships" your store is talking about, though--there's the stuff packaged with the Transport, but it doesn't make sense to talk about that separately; the Corvette is still listed as "at the printer", and Wave 4 is even further away.

Sorry, I did not intend to be intentionally obtuse there - I reread my post and it was pretty vague.

The "other ships" he was referring to were E-wings, Defenders, etc.

Gotcha. In that case, I'm doubling down: the pre-release tournament for the Wave 4 stuff isn't until the end of next month, so it doesn't make sense for those ships to be arriving at stores before June at the earliest.

Not to mention they're still listed as "at the printers" so as far as we know they're still being made, painted, put into boxes, ect...

There is no way possible that Wave 4 will be in stores this Friday.

Yeah, I guess I was hoping too much.

I'l have to settle for a Rebel transport for the time being I guess, that's just too bad isn't it :)

No, not at all. Cool model, plus a X-Wing and 4 new pilots.

It's also getting here way faster then anyone thought it would. The only thing I can guess is that they didn't update the 'on the boat' status when it actually shipped. I mean it showed up as 'On the boat' on April 10th or so... Perhaps a few days before anyone noticed.

But from say first week of April to now, is still only 3 weeks, and it should take 4-6 according to their page. So either they got on a really fast boat, they used the transports to help push it, or else it had been on the boat for a while before the status was changed.

My FLGS told me last week that they were told by the distributor to expect the Transport to arrive with their Wednesday shipment. As far as I know, that information has not changed. Fingers crossed!

I'm just excited to add a new dynamic to some of my casual games. I was just kidding by the way, I'm super excited to get the transport.

I can see some epic large scale points games in my future trying to protect the big guy from the TIE baddies.

I am too, but I'm still debating on when I'll get it. My plan was to order both from Miniature Market to save on shipping. But with no idea on when the CR-90 will be out... It's tempting to just get it at my LGS so I have everything now.

But on the other hand, during the summer I don't play much, too busy playing disc golf to get much X-Wing in. When you live in Wisconsin/Minnesota you don't spend much time in doors during the summer, if you can avoid it.

Solution? Play X wing in 1:72 scale outside! Use finemolds or AMT/ERTL models, make your own bases/maneuver templates.

OMG @ THIS.

Think Harry Potter Battle Chess, holy crap if you build it I will come.

We would need die the size of those outdoor checkers.

Alternately, dress 4 of your friends up as Rebel pilots and 5-7 of them as Imps, hack together some MDF maneuver templates, and get started.

It shouldn't take too long to make body shells for golf carts...

I've spent enough on the 1:270 scale stuff already, thanks. :)

The funny thing is, there's a mowed field across the street from my house big enough to play a epic sized game at 1:72 scale.

Ah c'mon... It's cheaper at 1:72 than 1:270!

No, you are doing it wrong.

1/72 is only, what? About 4 times the size of 270? So the playing field should be about 12' to a side. Bases around 6". 15" range increments. I bet the old action fleet toys would be about the right size.

I ordered both the transport and a couple of the wave 4 ships on Amazon.co.uk and while it does not list a date for the transport, it did update the date for the estimated delivery of wave 4: Thursday 29 May 2014 - Friday 30 May 2014. For what it's worth

That may be the dates for the UK but we should see the Transport here in the US by April 30 for sure.
