My Asteroids

By Bhunter46, in X-Wing

I just finished making my asteroids and I wanted to show you guys how they turned out. I mounted them on the asteroid bases I ordered from CorSec. They worked very well.

I'm pretty happy with them. I thought it would be fun to add a baby space worm in one of them. =)

Are they reversible, so that you can use either side of the asteroid token?

Those look really nice.

Really Cool! Love the baby space worm.

Nice job, man! I've still yet to play with 3D asteroids but it looks like it would add a lot!

Very Nice, I did some up with coal and weren't near as creative as those..... I drilled a hole in a rock and stuck it on a flying stand lol

what kind of material are they made from, they look really nice.

No, you have to make sure you place the asteroid the right way up.

Thanks, I used Super Sculpey. It's a ceramic-like sculpturing compound. It turns hard when you bake it in the oven.

so you hand carved those?? I've used sculpey before, it's a decent medium for this purpose.

I hand sculpted them, then baked them hard in the oven :-)

that's awesome.. very nice cutting skills..

Nice job!

Here is the final paint job of my asteroids. I haven't had a chance to play a game with them yet, but I should be having a game with my wife soon. I haven't even had a chance to try out my Imperial Aces yet...

I definitely like the skull one as well as the baby worm. I'd be willing to bet if you made a mold and produced them, you could sell a bunch of them, especially here on the forum.

Thanks Steak, cool idea. :-)

These are awesome. Much prettier than the standard lava rock drilled onto a toothpick. I never considered those worth the trouble, but these are actually make it look worthwhile to have. I love the details, like the space worm as well. Good job!

Very good job on these. I was going to make some from insulation foam. Seeing these makes me want to pull out the old sculpting tools and give it a go. Yes mold those babies up and sell them, they will sell.

If you do decide to make a mold and copy them for sale i would buy a set. Those are amazing. Very good job

You have some fine looking asteroids. This is the kind of thing that fits Star Wars and Star Trek perfectly.

Very nice...

Curious do they easily come off for measuring and when a ship lands on one?

Where are the potato and tennis shoe?

The job is very nice, and the baby worm is a good touch, but they seem to me pretty 'organic' rather than 'rocky'.

Yes, these would be placed on top of the asteroid tokens, and when I ship got close, you would pick it up leaving just the token on the the table.

Haha, I did think of this while I was making the asteroids! :-)

When I first decided to sculpt my own asteroids, I envisioned them looking like realistic rucks slightly stylized. But when I started sculpting them, the artist in me completely took over and I was no longer making realistic asteroids, I was treating them as individual mini sculptures.

So these are asteroids translated into my artistic style, which is very 'organic'. The very word I used to describe them to my wife.

Speaking of my wife, I got her to sculpt one of the asteroids. :-)

Thanks for all the nice comments!

I had a lot of fun making them. :-)
